How do I get rid of the shutdown screens in win XP?

I'm using XP to power an arcade machine. On startup, I have got rid of the win logo 'fuel gauge' thingy, and it goes straight to desktop for a few seconds, before starting mame in a new full screen window (No toolbar)

The desktop itself has no icons, start bar set to 'hide' and a nice mame logo, but you only see it for a couple of seconds anyway...

But when I shut down, I get a nice blue screen that says 'Windows is shutting down' and then another message before the screen goes black.

I'd really like to shut down and have the screen go black straight away. I know when its shutdown cause it says 'No Signal' (Which is fine...)

Whats the easiest way to achieve this? Thanks :)

TL/DR?

You can't change them easily like you used to be able to in win98. Try third party software like skinstudio.

Found this on digitallife, from sometime in 2012. Sent you the link via PM.

Quote:

display custom background logon-logoff image (make sure less than 256kb)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background]
"OEMBackground"=dword:00000001

; display custom background logon-logoff image (apply to all themes)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\System]
"UseOEMBackground"=dword:00000001

The image should be placed at \windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds and named as BACKGROUNDDEFAULT.jpg
.

use reg edit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\policies\system deleting the entire string or setting the value to 1 may or may not work. make a backup of your registry first.
