Accident at Webmaster Access hotel
 
Anyone knows what happened? Hotel was surrounded by police and the road was completely closed off.

There was some serious accident according to

There was a girl on a bike hit by the shuttle bus taking people from a party back to the hotel. She was dragged for a hundred meters. People were shouting at the bus driver, but he kept going.

I was in a cab with my colleagues and Wizzo, we arrived right after it happened. We stopped to get out of cab and saw the girl and he bike. I don't know how bad it was, but it didn't look good.

Yeah yeah, no webmasters hurt. Shocked, yes. It was a horrible sight and for the people in the shuttle it must have been terrible. Let alone the girl... I don't know how she is... She was laying there, no movement, nothing... Horrible....

Sorry about the girl.

When I am in Amsterdam Centrum many of the bicyclists behave in an unsafe manner, including mopeds and moto guzziies using the bicycle lanes and endangering pedestrians. Several times I have come close to being run over by motorized bikes that you don't hear coming that are in the bike lanes. 20% of the bicyclists in Amsterdam peddle like arrogant idiots creating hazards to both pedestrians and vehicle traffic.

That said, the traffic is so bad in Amsterdam Centrum that bicycles are an efficient, healthy and pollution free method of transport. It's just that mixing pedestrian, public with private transport and bicycles in a crowded central city area is an accident waiting to happen. I have rarely seen a bicyclist wearing any head protection when in Amsterdam -- their choice.

The girl was on a bicycle lane... She should have been safe. But on a bike you're vulnerable for sure. Nobody here wears helmets on a bike.

Depends on the speed, but I'd guess anywhere from 5-9 seconds to drag someone 100 meters in the city. Unless he was speeding of course.

I was in the shuttle bus that hit the girl. We were indeed on our way back from the WA party. As mentioned before we screamed to the busdriver to stop the bus but he kept on going. No idea why but I can also confirm the taxi-story that LeRoy mentioned.
In his defense, the girl was (hit) on the street, not the bicycle lane.

I can only hope she died on the first contact because she got dragged for atleast 100 meters, and the bus ran over her..

And to be clear, the girl is dead.. parts all over the place.

Hey Roald, does anyone know yet who's at fault? They really should push the "wear helmet" there a bit more.

I'm not one that would ever wear one, from riding a bike, but I also NEVER trust any cars. I give them the right-of-way no matter what, anytime, all the time.
