No More Apple iPod? WTF?

So Apple is discontinuing the fucking iPod?? WTF? So now we are all supposed to listen to our tunes through the iPhone? Again, WTF Apple??

I LIKE dedicated devices!! This whole trend towards running EVERY aspect of your life through a single device is getting SO FUCKING ANNOYING.

What if I want to, you know, listen to my music at the same time I want to talk on the phone? What a fucking concept Apple.

Please list some non-Apple alternatives to the now defunct iPod. Or should I just run out and buy ten iPods while I still can?

Sly 09-14-2014 08:25 AM

The iPod has not been updated in five years. I was looking for a similar product a few months ago, they don't exist. MP3 players are dead. You can buy old ones on eBay all day long though. Stick with the secondary market and you'll be fine. Nobody is going to have a new MP3 player that competes with the classic iPod.

It is disappointing though that the largest audio player you can get is 160 GB, the classic iPod.

Lots of options: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...+ gb&_sacat=0

freecartoonporn 09-14-2014 08:26 AM

i can understand...

ErectMedia 09-14-2014 08:29 AM

If I was into fitness I'd be like WTF as well but never bought one and just use the iphone/itunes for tunes in my car. If ya love the thing buying a spare wouldn't hurt. Know they been talking about dumping that for a while. Only thing I ever bought was a SanDisk Sansa Clip but ended up giving it to my Mom as I barely used it. http://www.sandisk.com/products/musi...us-mp3-player/

Thanks man, will check it out.

It is fucking retarded tho that people do not seem to want their tunes in a seperate device, a whole differant jukebox for their music. Everyone I know has an iPod!

Again WTF Apple, get your head out of your ass on this one please.

I'm with you. I wanted a large (500 GB minimum) MP3 player with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. I know a lot of musicians that would like this, as well as runners (as mentioned above.) Might not be a large enough market for Apple, but it seems like a smaller boutique electronics company could give it a whirl.

SBJ 09-14-2014 08:42 AM

they are still keeping the ipod touch as I see a 6th gen is due out soon..

:1orglaugh So they are just doing away with the cheap ones.. Classic Apple move

I was thinking about getting a ipod touch to leave in my car 24/7 cause I hate conecting my phone into my radio every time i get in and out of the car.

Think due to storage size in phones increasing combined with the cloud has moved people away from them as they can basically have their entire library on their iphone or in the cloud. For a walker, jogger, runner, at the gym, etc... though I agree can't beat that little lightweight device.

What I don't like about the cloud for music is: data transfer, connectivity.

I don't want to have to increase my data plan just so that I can listen to my music. And in my home, my connection sucks. Sure, I can do Wi-Fi, but the connection issue is still a valid point. Take a trip to the sticks and want your music? Nope!

Like you and I both said, most people are doing the cloud now and most people don't have the music library that I do, but I do still feel there is a niche market that could be fulfilled by a boutique electronics company.

Agreed as a lot of people will be pissed, thinking fitness people the most that don't wanna lug big phone around and the older generation that will turn on the Weather Channel looking for the Cloud. :1orglaugh I've got maybe 700+ CD's I'd like to upload just cause if it's in their library they upgrade ya to their version of it which may be in higher quality format. Haven't bought a CD in years but still would like to find the time someday to upload the old ones. Think part of my delay on it was do I do the cloud or an actual device/drive as I had some of the same concerns you had regarding the cloud.

i liked the ipod but hated having to use itunes to manage it. give me drag and drop! the sanza one was good...but for whatever reason it wouldn't recognize certain mp3s and when you would put it on shuffle, it would only play certain songs and never others..didn't make sense.

500gb?!

I still haven't filled the 32gb usb stick I play in my car - and it's got damn near everything I'd ever want to listen to - including a few dozen entire-album MP3s. I think in total it has about 1400 MP3s.

I can't imagine ever needing/wanting 500gb of music storage. I doubt I even have enough years of life left to listen to all that. :1orglaugh

Yeah but I have a 2 TB library of classic rock man. LOL My current iPod Classic has a 160gb drive and it's always full so I have to rotate out entire libraries of music.

This is absolute bullshit is all I can say. Of course, if I could figure out a way to carry around an external 2 TB HD with headphones then we would be all set.....LOL

Where the fuck is SONY and the Walkman for God's sake? :helpme

Yeah but some people are not content to listen only to Madonna's 'Material Girl' on repeat. :D

A few dozen albums? Amateur... :winkwink:

I can probably rattle off a few dozen GENRES that I like. Grab a few artists (and a few albums from them) from each genre and you already have over 100 albums without even trying. Then add my mixes and set lists on top of that... woop!

Likewise, I have many, many genres I enjoy - everything from classic rock, metal, country, jazz, blues, folk, classical, pop...easy listening.

But I generally discard the album filler crap in favour of just saving a few select tracks I like. The entire album MP3s I keep in the car are mostly those where every track is great (i.e. Back in Black, Hotel California, Steve Miller, Van Halen first album, etc.)

There's the crux of it, right? If you predominantly listen to mainstream music, then you won't need as much storage.

anexsia 09-14-2014 01:07 PM

I bought the original first generation IPOD and I remember hardly ever using it

MrBottomTooth 09-14-2014 02:10 PM

Im sick of the 160 gb limit on my ipod classic as well. Im wondering if there's some easy way to just hook a computer or maybe just a usb hard drive to my existing car stereo. Gonna look into that this week. I do have a built in inverter so i can hook a standard power supply up if i need to.

bronco67 09-14-2014 02:27 PM

I just noticed that my iPod is sitting on a shelf in my office...and it's been there about 6 years in that same spot. You know why? Because the shit is obsolete!

Just because Apple discontinues and OBSOLETE piece of hardware, doesn't mean you have to stop using it.

An old-ass iPod will still play music, and there's not much more they can do to it to make it better. I don't understand your complaint. BTW, how long would it take to listen to 2TB of music? Years?

I remember fitting 160 songs on 700MB CD.
7GB would be 1600 songs, 70GB - 16.000 songs, 140GB - 32.000 songs...
Why wouldn't 160GB player be enough?

Nice find!! But this is no good:

•Powerful dual core processor handles all modern lossless formats at up to 192kHz/24B

All my shit is either FLAC or 320. :(

Actually, the iPod will not last forever. It's little hard drive will give out one day or something and then it will all be POOF gone forever.

And yes, years to listen to but worth the time.

Point blank: All those cheap ebay and aliexpress mp3 players will be buggy, slow and have terrible audio quality.

iPod killed the walkman years ago for the simple fact that they had the first easy to use mp3 player. Zune SUCKED. Every other one sucked just as bad, Useless navigations, bad quality, battery issues, etc. Nothing could match an iPod.. until the smartphone came about and all those teenybopper geared cells with fancy flip pads, fancy walkman phones etc.. then.. iPhone came out. Then android kept improving and here we are, the mp3 is dead beyond resuscitation.. Every kid has a cell phone now, no need for dedicated mp3 players. And with this push for cloud this and cloud that.. older generations cannot addopt such a blantantly foolish way of doing things.

Sly is right though, there is a boutique niche for it. But it has to be for something quality, Easy to use. Easy to load and easy to replace batteries. It really wouldnt be all that hard for someone with dedication to crowdfund something based off any one of those micro computer boards..

ipods have always been shit, yet people still paid for them, now you're paying for them in other ways.

Sony MP3 players have always been far superior, yet "the masses" ate the apple shit up, not noticing how poor the sound quality was, and how pathetic the whole apple fandom was and still is.

I've had both Sony and ipods and I agree that sony has far better sound than ipods but were always lacking on ease of use and modern features.. that and they don't have large sized versions.. I got on amazon and a 64gig is the largest Sony I found and that was actually a Japanese version that will work for the US

I'm not a apple fanboy at all.. quite the opposite with computers and phones but with MP3 players apple did a great job

My first MP3 player was the RIO in 1998..... I think it ran on AA batteries and could only fit a handful of songs.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Rio_pmp300.jpg

However, it came with a piece of software called Rhapsody, which is now owned by Yahoo. I am grandfathered in under an old agreement where I get unlimited mother fucking streaming for free as long as I buy ten songs a year.
