Officer who pointed gun at protesters suspended

pointing guns at a protest makes it better :2 cents:

A police officer who was part of the effort to keep peace during protests in Ferguson has been suspended for pointing a semi-automatic assault rifle at demonstrators, then cursing and threatening to kill one of them, police said Wednesday.

A protester captured the exchange on video that has been posted to YouTube and several websites. It happened Tuesday night during the latest of several protests that have followed the Aug. 9 shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a Ferguson police officer.

On the video, a man is heard saying, "Oh my God! Gun raised!" as the officer approaches. The identity of the man who shot the video is not known.

"My hands are up, bro! My hands are up!" the man said.

The officer walks near the man with his gun pointed and appears to say, "I will (expletive) kill you."

St. Louis County police spokesman Brian Schellman said the officer is with the police department in St. Ann, another St. Louis County town near Ferguson. His name hasn't been released. Messages seeking comment from St. Ann's police chief were not returned.

Police should never "threaten". They should command or order, but once they start making threats like "I will kill you" they've crossed a line. Even more so when they happen to be holding an assault rifle up.

A lot of people like this become cops. I know one personally, and family circumstances beyond my control mean I have to interact with him more often than I'd like. He's a gaping asshole and offers me pretty good insights about cops and the people who are attracted to that line of work. Some of the shit this guy says...he should be locked up. I realize they're not all sociopaths looking for a consequence free way to bust heads, but those types can easily find a home under the police tent.

Maybe cops should have some kind of personality/psychological testing to determine if they're anti-social scumbags who shouldn't be assigned to "serve and protect". Or do they already? I'd ask the one I know, but I try to avoid talking to him as much as possible.

My girl is a cop. She deals with cops who are just as bad as the baddest crooks.

Her Dept. has up'd it's physical and mental requirements over the past few years. It's not as easy to get in and they don't take just anyone. I suppose this is a good thing.

I really think you need to be a special kind of person to want to take on the job of policing the public, whether it's for good or bad reasons. Weeding out the potential crackpot could be a tough job.

She's out on medical leave at the moment. She just had her second shoulder surgery after being picking up and body slammed by an inmate, last year.

She's one tough cookie.

This kind of police behavior is extremely dangerous and could boil over into another Kent State massacre where national guardsmen fired indiscriminately into a crowd of college kids.

That happening in 1970 is one thing. Here in 2014 I think it would really have the potential to incite extreme violence given how the media and internet would cover it.

blackmonsters 08-21-2014 12:31 PM

Yep, I heard that from a cop years ago.

Fucking crazy.

Out of fucking control cops are common, but getting them on tape isn't.

DAMNMAN 08-21-2014 02:03 PM

I have a cousin who is a cop he is a big dick just like yours. It really says a lot when certain people can get on the force.
