Fucking hate them! Was on the motorway doing 70mph at the time when it seemed to make it's way in. Saw a friend get stung 12 times once and have had a small phobia of them ever since. So that was a fun ride for a few mins until i managed to pull over and get it out again...

:Oh crap:Oh crap

I feel your pain! This past weekend I had a wasp about the size of a cicada land on my shirt at my buddies engagement party. I have never encountered a stinging insect so big in my life

brassmonkey 08-20-2014 09:08 AM

i sent him hope it hurt :evil-laug

Rob 08-20-2014 09:12 AM

That's a Yellowjacket, not a wasp. :winkwink:

Either way, they all SUCK! I go complete ninja when a wasp is near me. Little fuckers pack a punch. I hope you're alright.

edgeprod 08-20-2014 09:21 AM

I thought a yellow jacket was a wasp. My childhood is ruined!

stoka 08-20-2014 09:23 AM

not afraid of them but really staying off the hornets
luckilly they are so loud you can hear them well in advance

Both are wasps. In quite similar manner than you and the guy below are mammals.

You see, there is even the same look. :)

That pic isn't a wasp ??

But yeah either way they suck. Been stung a few times. Mostly when out golfing. Never a fun experience.

The stings i mean. Well, sometimes the golf too... :1orglaugh

Markul 08-20-2014 09:28 AM

Funny. I had a talk with a few mates about these the other day sitting outside observing how people acted when they got near em.

We actually found out that not a single one of us had been stung since childhood. No reason to go nuts, just don't drink them or step on them :2 cents:

signupdamnit 08-20-2014 09:28 AM

There is a nest less than 3 feet from my front door. A couple months ago I sprayed it but they just keep coming back so I left them alone. Every time someone goes by the door the wasp is always right there watching. But AFAIK it has yet to sting anyone so we just leave him alone. I joke around that it is my pet wasp.

I think it might be one of the less aggressive varieties though. Kind of reddish. Maybe a paper wasp?

I have never been stung by a wasp, only a bee. I'm the biggest cry baby when one of these fuckers comes near me, I grab whatever I can to try swat it away. I hate them with a passion.

I think that's what most people do (including myself), even though most adults don't get stung hehe :)

Last week I found a yellow-jackets nest just on my neighbor's property and did the neighborly thing of pointing it out to him before he mowed over it. Unfortunately, my cat is VERY social and came up to join us, walking directly over top of it before I could stop her. They got her a couple of times, but nothing so serious some canned food and a quiet evening inside couldn't fix.

Plutocracy 08-20-2014 10:42 AM

wasps really don't have a purpose except being an asshole bug! They are pissed and will hurt you just because they feel it's fun!

They are mega pissed here just now because of the weather and time of year.

Which is probably why i freaked out as well...

djroof 08-20-2014 10:57 AM

Always fun to watch people freak out when a wasp/hornet/bee lands on or flies near them. Doesn't bother me at all!

Sly 08-20-2014 11:47 AM

Apparently Yellowjackets ARE wasps. Seems to be many different species.

paint the top or your porch/awning the colour of the sky. it fucks with their perception and they build nests elsewhere. I'm not sure how well it works but it seems every house in new orleans has this on their porches and that was the explanation I got.

how about this: The reason everyone was stung for the last time during childhood is since then everyone dodges these fuckers like the plague when it comes near... chicken - egg. Blown your mind huh?

btw i was also stung the last time when i was a kid and also dodge them when they get near since then.

SilentKnight 08-20-2014 04:05 PM

The wife and I keep a pair of those electrified swatters on the backyard deck - we keep score...good sporting fun.

AdultDesigners 08-20-2014 04:19 PM

I am amazed you get out alive :)

Famemonster 08-20-2014 04:23 PM

I have felt the pain before. I got stung when I was 12 and had a reaction. 103 fever and the bump where I got stung was huge and so itchy. I do my best to stay away from those little buggers.

When i saw my friend get stung 12 times when we were out golfing, it has put the fear into me ever since.

It went under his t-shirt, and stung him all the way up his chest. It was only when i saw it appear at his neck i managed to flick it away.....Then run.

Nah, they've got a bad rep. All they need is some TLC and a leash.
