A basketball player in a US High School has been suspended after dropping a small bag of marijuana during a game.

The player, who was playing for Ottawa Hills school in Grand Rapids, Michigan, admitted it was his.

The drug was discovered after a first-quarter scuffle for the ball. A press photographer noticed what he believed to be litter on the court and alerted a referee.

The school is recommending the student be expelled, but he would have the right to an appeal.

County prosecutors haven't decided whether to seek criminal charges against the student, whose name and age were not released.
