Sir Cliff Richard's home searched by police Cliff Richard Police are searching a Berkshire property

Police are searching a Berkshire property belonging to Sir Cliff Richard in relation to an alleged historical sex offence.

A number of items were removed from the property in the Sunningdale area for further investigation, but no arrests have been made.

A police spokesman said the allegation involved a boy under 16 and dated from the 1980s in the South Yorkshire area.

The search is not connected to Operation Yewtree, police said.

But officers from that operation have been notified, a South Yorkshire Police spokesman added.

Sir Cliff, born Harry Webb, is one of the most successful British musicians of all time.

He has sold 21.5 million singles - more than any other male British artist - and is the only performer to have had at least one UK top five album in each of the last seven decades.

He has represented the UK in the Eurovision song contest twice and in 2013 released the 100th album of his career.

He was knighted in 1995 and performed at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace in 2012.

an allegation is far different to an arrest... bit of a joke really that the media can report on this, and set off the 'no smoke without fire' brigade.

I can allege someone has illegal stuff on their computer, and the police would have to go search etc - is that 'news', really? Is it fuck.

This is the scary part of the world we live in today - if someone doesn't like the way we look, walk, talk or anything, they can just go file charges and accuse us of doing just about anything and it has to be investigated. I can't tell you how many men I have seen accused of child molestation simply because mom got pissed at him - it's a scary place we live in these days.

When I was growing up, my dad beat me at least once a week and someone would report him and they would call him to setup an appointment and of course he would set it for after all bruises would be gone - now they can just bust in and grab your kids if someone even calls and says they THINK something is going on!

I am all about protecting the kids, but there has to be some sort of control on things like this!

Not saying he didn't do it, but as you say, allegation shouldn't get someone persecuted before they have even done a bit of leg work on it.

If Cliff has done anything wrong then I'd be seriously surprised. he has always been famously god-fearing and celibate.

If he has done this he deserved to be punished in the same way as anyone else.

However what I find very distasteful is that the BBC had enough prior knowledge of this raid that they were able to get cameras at the property from several angles, a helicopter overhead, and a reporter simultaneously at his gaff in Portugal.

There are a couple of reasons this is very wrong:

a) The secrecy of the operation could have been compromised. He could have been tipped off by someone in the BBC about the raid and cleared his stash of undesirable material and hot footed it to Portugal.

b) When Camerons aide was arrested for the same thing, it was all done in absolute secrecy. He was allowed to resign and clear his desk and his PC was quietly whisked out of the back door of Downing St. No BBC tip off, no helicopters, minimum embarrassment for all concerned. (http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime...t-9167395.html)

If Cliff is guilty he deserves the correct punishment, if he is innocent the whole affair appears to have been designed to make sure his reputation is fucked anyway.

Scott McD 08-15-2014 04:25 AM

What exactly are they expecting to find anyway ? Whole thing just seems to stink to me...

I imagine this goes deeper than most expect, and it's only a matter of time before someone in the rock superstar/legend category is named.
