Hey now! I'm Canadian, but I'm with you on this Kawaii. The H bomb was the absolute worst bit of terror in world history. Not just for the WWII bombings, but the insane number of detonations that followed. Sad sad.

I've been to Hiroshima and visited the Memorial Museum, and it's a very sobering and also educational experience as it narrates the story of the bomb and its aftermath from the Japanese point of view.

Yeah, I was speaking last month with the local head of the Citizens Radiation Research Group. Japanese know they are fucked in many ways because of Fukushima but he told me he saw a report that most of the Western US is fucked beyond belief and Americans don't even know it. Northeastern US? In pretty bad shape as well. The realities are kept hidden from ordinary citizens.

The perpetrators of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima atomic attacks are war criminals. Of course people like to forget the Japanese attacked a military base and the US spent the next 4 years firebombing women, children and old people.

Why the attack? The US was threatening Japan over its expansionist activities in se asia that threatened, yeah, you guessed it, American oil reserves. Americans have been attacking and bombing people over oil for almost 100 years now.

For fucks sake! Japan was ruthless with every man, woman, child, old person their army came in contact with in China and Korea. The fact they couldn't attack the US mainland is all that stopped them from doing the same.

Nothing new in here. Civilian bombings were part of US, UK, German, Japan and USSR arsenal. It was called as "demoralizing", although it failed in that task, but made plenty of bodies though, whatever you think of that.

I don't know why the US bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki except of course as retaliation for the Pearl Harbour Attacks, which I'm sure, there are all kinds of reasons, true and false, for them to do it.

I just know that Nuclear Explosions have scared the piss out of me in the 80's. Reagan, all the Nuclear war movies (Wargames, Miracle Mile, The Day After, Special Bulletin, even Damnation Alley) - all freaked me out. I even had nightmares about nukes hitting Montreal.

I'm glad that for now at least the age of Nuclear testing is mostly behind us, except for North Korea anyway, and I hope it stays that way.
