I use IE 6, for my main Browser Netscape 4.7 for email, and Netscape 7 to check my pages, I don't like IE worth a shit and never have but that's what 80 or 90% of surfers use. Netscape 7 is ok. I like Netscape 4.7 best, but a lot of pages won't work with it, so I started using IE and have kept on using it.

Most problems people have with their computers and software, are caused by the person doing the complaining. In other words, you.

Saying the software sucks, is just a convenient, and quite lame way to pass the buck.

On that note, what specifically is IE doing?

iroc409 03-10-2003 11:02 PM

well, it still wants to save anything in .bmp. it's often slow... slower than netscape to run. and it has this wierd habit now of conveniently leaving the bottom of the browser off... the part that tells you about secure sites and such. mostly it does that when you open a new window from another window, but sometimes it does it all the time.

i've wiped the cache, scanned for viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, and nothing, system appears clean. and it seems to do this through reinstalls as well. ie6. will work for a while, then goes back to its old ways.

and yes, i realize 75% or more of computer error is user malfunction, but i can't find anything i'm doing wrong. and no, i'm not a n00b.

How much disk space have you given to your temporary internet files folder?

iroc409 03-10-2003 11:31 PM

it's on a drive with like 35gb free. i don't think that you can specifically allocate storage to that folder, but maybe.

either way, it still did it after i did a thorough cleaning.

Yes you can, which is why I asked.
First, clean up:
Tools>Internet Options>General Tab
Temporary internet Options section.
Click the "Delete files" button.
Check the box in the confirmation window.
Click "Ok"

Now, right next to it is a Settings button, click it.
in the lower half, is where the amount of disk space to use is specified.

if it's small... increase it.

My brother had some of the same problems you are having earlier today.
He had his set to 1Meg. LOL.

If you're set with that much, you've got other issues at play.

I keep mine set at only 250Megs on a 120Gig drive, and have never had the BMP problem, or any speed issues with IE.

On the other hand, I can crash Netscape 7 simply by clicking too fast, lol.

Head over to Google Groups, and search for a couple of your symptoms, you'll probably find about 10,000 articles on the save as bmp problem alone.

The Truth Hurts 03-11-2003 12:22 AM

other things to try while searching...

run the system file checker...
sfc /scannow

or run the ie repair tool.

#1: Stop being a crybaby faggot and whining all the time about software you don't even have to pay for.

#2: Install the latest IE on a REAL computer instead of that lame fucking 3rd world cake fuck you got there and start seeing the Internet the way it was meant to be you fucking whining BITCH.

#3: On behalf of the late Amp: format c: you ASS fuck.

(edited to include the word "ASS" in this line: you ASS fuck.)

http://www.pcpitstop.com recommend 80megs for your temp internet folder...

FATPad 03-11-2003 05:39 AM

I usually have my temp internet folder at 1mb. Last week I changed it to 16mb for the hell of it.

In 4 years, I've had one problem with the browser saving pics as .bmp's.
