Agreed that this case should have been reported.

But I can see bods in govt and law enforcement getting very giddy about where this can lead.

What about tax evasion ?, what about shady business practise ?, what about job discrimination ?

There is a real danger that goog is on a slippery slope with this one.

This is how it starts. Sure no one likes a fucking pedo. But later down the line, maybe you start writing political things someone doesn't like or ideas that aren't popular, or you are communicating with someone that is being watched for something else. Then they come for you. If I have nothing to hide, I sure as hell don't have to prove it to anybody. You get what you pay for with Google. Do no evil my ass.

I get this, I really do, but for now, a pedo got nicked. No problem at all so far. When and if at some stage in the future they nick the 1st person for political beliefs, then I'll start worrying.

Google reading emails is no new thing. It does so to target advertising. And apparently it doesn't always stay to that.

I've certainly got no problem nailing a pedo, they have zero rights as far as I'm concerned. Gelding should be mandatory.

So GMail has over 400 million users and can pick out one pedos pictures in emails he sends and get him sent to jail but they can't de-index an illegal file sharing site with thousands of documented take down requests. interesting
