Who is the best host you've ever had?

I just have to ask now that we know some of the worst.

I want someone I can rely on that will do updates I'm not aware I need and maybe even advise me of new services I might need as I grow.

Who's the best host you've ever had and why? :thumbsup

wehateporn 07-31-2014 05:23 PM

Hostgator of a few years back

NickBaer 07-31-2014 05:52 PM

I opened an account with Arvixe.

Their logo is in someone's sig, in your "worst host" thread.

NickBaer 07-31-2014 05:54 PM

I've been with one since 2005, and I like their custom control panel features.

They are in Europe. I'm keeping them, just adding Arvixe for SEO purposes.

bxy 07-31-2014 06:05 PM

Myself, it has been all down hill since I let my line go.

bagfull 07-31-2014 06:13 PM

I'm running a bunch of Wordpress sites off of a KVM VPS from Quadranet's new Infracloud service...fucking rock stable, easy to use, you can add more memory or cpu cores or disk space instantly, their support is awesome, and cheap!

Other hosts that I love are: Ramnode, VULTR, and Linode

Without a doubt National Net.

Here is how you answer this question... Call up all of the hosting companies at 3am their time and see if they pick up the phone....

iSpyCams 08-01-2014 12:47 PM

Mojohost managed hosting. Since I am not a coder or a Linux expert I would be lost without them. I've used 5 other hosts and all let me down in a big way sooner or later, and even when things were going well, they were never going as well as with Mojo.

ErectMedia 08-01-2014 06:41 PM

http://www.liquidweb.com

mainly cause they own their own data centers so no middleman and uptime runs 100% consistently, have 24/7 phone/email support but since shit's always up I never really need support

mikesouth 08-01-2014 07:13 PM

I have had a few good ones but without a doubt m3Servers is the best, the tech support, the uptime and the value for the dollar is far and away the best.

They made me the best deal straight up, other people said oh we would have matched that...my response was I requested a quote and you didnt give me your best price...they did...they win

But a hosting company is about a LOT more than just the money, they do backups, and uptime and tech support are very important. At previous hosts I had to notify them and open a ticket if my site went down, M3 monitors my server and proactively gets alerted automatically if the load starts getting too high and they jump on it to fix any potential issues BEFORE they crash the server

the result no opened support tickets because of server performance or crashes...NONE and its been over a year

When I moved to m3 they took care of everything including a few tuning and database issues that in my opinion wasnt really their responsibility.

I could NOT be happier and I have a UNIX sys admin background

Kudos to them for OUTSTANDING value and service.

PornDiscounts-R 08-02-2014 05:23 AM

Natnet by a mile

Relentless 08-02-2014 06:02 AM

NationalNet - nobody else is even a close second...

They answer calls on the first ring, clear tickets within 15 minutes and often take care of things before I even have a chance to notice something could be improved. They are by far the best company in their industry for mainstream or adult.

skrog 08-02-2014 08:08 AM

Check out my sig. :thumbsup

geirlur 08-02-2014 08:18 AM

Way3

Chris is always there to help me with stuff that aren't even a webhost's responsibility

potter 08-02-2014 08:44 AM

lol.. Mostly a bunch of shitty hosts no one outside of adult would have ever even heard of. I wouldn't even host a one page html site for my grandma on pretty much anything referenced in this thread. I think linode is the only one mentioned that is a decent host out in the real world. If GFY is any sort of representation of this industry... Jesus

For turn and burn hosting we utilize Media Temple for a lot of the sites. Good support, uptime, very well known and reputable in the real world. If you want a box that has some sort of control panel to manage it then they have great products in that realm.

For any client/site who needs their own dedicated hosting we will almost always go to RackSpace. I'm not sure there is a better or more trusted host out there than RackSpace. $2-$3k for a good server admin to setup and configure the box with what it will need and it'll be good for life from then on.

Then for mobile apps, web apps, file hosting, and CDNs - we usually go to Amazon Web Services. They're very well structured for fast, scaling, and reliable web / file requests. I loathe their admin panel though, as it is so abstracted - but hopefully one day they'll get it fixed up a bit.

So, the best - Media Temple, RackSpace, and AWS (depending on what the needs of the application are).

P.S. We also extensively use Acquia - but that is for Drupal specific sites and the costs are $30-$50k/year for enterprise services. I'm sure their lower end (non-enterprise) services are good as well but I personally have not used those so I cannot say. But alas, since Acquia is specifically a Drupal hosting platform so it is irrelevant to anyone not on that application.

Natnet, went with them a few years back, never regretted it. Put plenty of people in touch with them too which is how highly i rate them.

sarettah 08-03-2014 08:18 PM

I have been with M3 since 2001 for most of my stuff, they do a great job and the people are woderful.

I also have a shared account with Arvixe and have absolutely no complaints there.

I have also worked on many client's servers and would happilly reccommend Natnet or Mojo, both do a great job :thumbsup

RyuLion 08-03-2014 10:41 PM

Natnet and Swiftwill/Reflected are both great.

As said before, you can't beat the ticket/support time from Natnet.

Im very happy with liquidweb. They have datacenters (this is important because before I had two bad experiencies with resellers) and an amazing support. They always help even with technical issues different from hosting. When some of my sites were attacked or compromised they helped me very fast, also when I migrated all the data to a new server. I recommend.

+1 for cyberwurx. I've been with them for 10+ years. Always responsive, and they've helped me set up some strange server stuff in the past. 100% top notch.

We had a bunch of servers with iWeb until we made a sales agreement for a new server, they promised a fixed number of unique IPs we wanted and then told us we couldn't have them (AFTER, we paid). The worst thing is that the iWeb server we were migrating from had 7 IPs and the new one had 5 IPs and they wouldn't even restore the position to 7 so we didn't incur a loss.

After a complaint about the sales rep at the highest level, they semi-recognized the error but didn't make ANY effort to remedy it. So for us, they're just a sales machine and have lost any concern about custom. We expected more considering we'd been with them for like six years.

We still have a couple servers there but we're looking shift them ASAP.

On the flip side, if youre on mainstream and looking for a VPS ive had a lot of positive feedback about:

(run by the guys who own the popular DNS tool: intodns.com)
