A tactical police team stormed a Sunwing plane that was forced to land at Toronto?s Pearson International Airport after a passenger on board made a ?direct threat? against the plane, according to a Sunwing spokesperson. Sunwing flight WG772 departed Pearson just after 7 a.m. but had to be diverted back to Toronto. ?The aircraft turned around approximately 45 minutes into the flight over West Virginia when an agitated customer made a direct threat against the aircraft,? said Sunwing spokesperson Janine Chapman in a media release. The plane landed safely at Pearson airport around 8:55 a.m. and was met by authorities who stormed the plane carrying automatic weapons and shouting at passengers to get their ?heads down? and their ?hands up.? The 25-year-old passenger, identified as Ali Shahi, was then arrested by Peel Regional Police and taken into custody. Shahi is facing four charges including two mischief charges, uttering threats and endangering the safety of an aircraft. Because they did not want us trigger happy rednecks storming the plane.

They don't screw around with even the slightest of potential threats these days. Anyone crying about "excessive police force tactics" on an aircraft is living in la la land.
Note to self: never say 'bombed' to describe being drunk, especially while flying. |

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toront...onto-1.2718073 Ali Shahi charged after Sunwing plane makes emergency landing in Toronto Ali Shahi, a Canadian citizen, has been charged with: Mischief to property. Mischief interfering of the lawful enjoyment of property. Uttering threats. Endangering the safety of an aircraft. He is being held in custody until a bail hearing. Shahi's father, who did not want his name used, suggested his son has mental health issues. "I am sorry for what happened on the flight, but Ali is not at fault," he said. "I blame the police and health system. We called the police for help more than 23 times in the last two to three years, but unfortunately they did nothing to help us or help my son." |
