I need a laptop that can chew through HD video

I need a laptop that can chew through (quickly render) HD video and I'm not up to speed with what's out there currently or the specs I'll need in one to do it. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks. :thumbsup

I fucking detested the trendy Mac crowd but I bought a beefed up macbook pro and it was freaking beautiful with HD video. I still hate the trendies but have a ton of respect for Mac and their support.

I should have stated that I do not want another Mac. If they ever make Vegas Pro for Mac I may reconsider, and I don't like running Bootcamp to use it.

They are sexy machines though, but it doesn't work well with my work flow and software.

A lot of companies there. Recommend someone solid?

mikesouth 07-16-2014 02:12 PM

Even the best laptop would be no match for a high end PC with a beefy graphics card

if you dont mind sacrificing a little quality get one with a CUDA or OpenGL Graphics card that can do it in hardware if not get the best i7 with the most memory and a fast hard drive that you can afford and do software encodes.

mikesouth 07-16-2014 02:16 PM

PS if you can find a laptop with a desktop i7 in it that be be a better option though i expect you would sacrifice battery life

I think they still have these around. http://www.cnet.com/products/sony-va...-gb-hdd/specs/

Max and I both have one and it tears through HD and rendering. Even has a firewire port.

that looks good from here, I'm in the market also, windows 7 64 bit is required imo, no use or time for the windows 8 nonsense.

I was looking for some retailers but you might be stuck with ebay or maybe get lucky with an overstock company.

Have you considered keeping a high end desktop for video rendering and logging into it through a program such as Team Viewer when on the road? It's not perfect solution, but replicating desktop power on a laptop is going to be difficult.

Mine has 8 gigs and the 2630qm processor@2 giga squirts. Just about as fast as me edit bay desktop with the 2.2 gig i7. I dunno why. It halls ass though. Runs hot as shit but I clean it out and replaced the thermal paste with arctic silver. So far so good.

His "order with extra ram" comments even goes to cement his status. Apple's mark up on memory when you order it is usually around 300% current retail elsewhere.
