                          I agree that it deserved a sentence, maybe 9-months is indeed a bit harsh.
                          Having myself been in contact with close friends from french Guyana, I only regret that this incident did not also show off all the racist past of Taubira herself.
                          Walwari (her political party) is probably the closest thing there is to the Front National.

                          Don't get me wrong: racism must be punished.
                          I just wish the media had used this to showcase other sorts of racism.

                                                                          if a 'black person', lets say african-american, were to vote for obama because he is black, that would not be racism:

                                                                          "prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior."

                                                                          if he were to NOT vote for obama because he is black, that's racism.

                                                                                                                                                              When, i wrote that it deserves probably more the cause that it wants to serve, it is just that white french people feel more and more oppressed by colored "minorities". You will see the effect of this kind of thing at the next election.
