Sex & Violence

Obviously the two do not go together. When people lose big money, Many of them kill themselves or go after the person who stole or caused their loss. This business being smut and what was said to have Mafia ties you would think that tube boys would have to keep hidden, Yet they walk freely around conventions and nobody seems to bother them.

I always found this to be odd, Anyone else?

Edit: Might seem like a troll thread, but I'm bored and at least it has to do with the business we are in :)

I've been in this business for fifteen years now and have yet to see any mafia connection. That's your imagination at work.

I get a chuckle when people call this an "industry" when the truth is it's really mostly comprised of a bunch of guys working independently from their Ikea desks at home, entirely for themselves, when they feel like it, and cutting each other's throats at every turn. This is an "industry" like garage sales are an "industry".

I was actually approached by Jim Powers during my years in the USA, and asked to play 'Wattie' in a 'punk porno'...

I declined, as it wasn't regarding my sexual expertise, but more my 12 inch bright red Mohican... :helpme

There is no such thing as the Mafia.

"Ten years from now, these young guys we've straightened out, we'll be proud of them", Gotti boasted. No doubt the Gambinos were proud of wiseguys like Martino and Locascio who funneled millions into the family organize crime enterprise but federal authorities is gearing up to put the men in the slammer for a long time. Both are scheduled for trial in February 2005--charged in a multiple count indictment for operating the largest internet fraud, pornography and telephone scams in U.S. history. Authorities estimated the Gambinos earned over $400 million.

Indictments issued between March 2003 and February 2004, federal prosecutors assigned to Eastern District in New York indicted Martino, Locascio and movie producer Norman Chanes including additional defendants on charges of racketeering conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering stemming from the scams that advertised "free tours" of porn sites that billed the viewers credit card with unauthorized fees. Martino's scheme was cleverly planned;the Gambino capo purchased a bank and telephone company that bilked the U.S. government and cell phone users out of millions. Bruce Chew, 57,the chief executive of Crescent publishing group that operated the porn web sites were among those also indicted on similar charges including bank executive Kenneth Matzdorff from Belton Missouri. Recent news about the case reported that movie producer Norman Chanes(also indicted) might become government witness against the Gambino defendants. Each defendant has pled not guilty declaring they done nothing wrong. Initially months ago when the indictments were issued, Brooklyn U.S. attorney Roslynn R. Mauskopf alleged the defendants bilked internet users out of approximately $230 million by advertising bogus "free tours" of porno web sites owned by the defendants.

Too funny and dead on. My desk is Japanese made however. ;)

Mafia does not play on the board here. They are in the background quietly making money.

mineistaken 07-12-2014 08:05 AM

This is legal business and not the most lucrative one. So let me ask - why would mafia invest in this business instead of any other legal business? Any other business would even have extra value for them as they could portray themselves as legit businessmen (selling porn is "dirtier").

American Psycho 07-12-2014 08:25 AM

They were involved a lot more than they are now.

I know some people at crescent publishimg having worked in magazines early in in my career amd they were mixed up w some shady guys, thats for sure.

That quote is accurate, they got hit hard for cc scams.

Exactly.

Here's an old (but very interesting) article on the history of the mafia's involvement in the porn industry over the years.

Ok, so what is the difference between that and any other "industry", other than that the big ones work from offices and plants rather than home (they still might get their desks from IKEA though).

GM and Ford are just a couple of companies building cars, entirely for themselves (themselves being the stockholders), etc etc. There is normally not much cooperation within an "industry" other than that which is forced upon them by regulation or market conditions.

I find this post hilarious because in my home office I have 3 Ikea desks and I bought them for 10 bucks each at a garage sale.
