The Ebola outbreak in W Africa
How long do you think it will be before it hits a major African city or even shows up outside of Africa? I'm not a Dooms Dayer, but this is the largest outbreak that has ever happened and it's no where near controlled at this point. It has spread to three countries so far and they don't even seem close to containing it and the experts are saying a state of emergency should be put in place.
It's about 500 deaths so far with more cases reported across 3 countries. The incubation period is up to 21 days and it has a 90% mortality rate, so the death toll will keep rising, making this by far the largest and most deadly outbreak. It's pretty fucked up shit if you think about how easily it could spread if hits a major city in Africa. |

All that has to happen is for the wrong person to get on a plane to Europe, America or Australia and it'd be a disaster like we have never seen in recent times.

If you travel to or live in an area with a massively dangerous virus. Expect an extra 21 days to get into any country. Regardless of your colour. |

This kind of thing scares me, especially here in Asia where nobody ever learned to cover their mouth when sneezing and coughing. |

From what I heard ebola is not that dangerous when you have proper modern healthcare available. All what you need to survive is a hospital with life support machines, for about a week. Also the virus has low contagiousness, it is quite hard to get infected without direct contact if you wash your hands before meal.
The problem with this virus is that there's very low chance to survive without external life support, relying on your own strength. |
500 deaths? pfff... Read about the Shanti virus.
"Strain 138 A strain created through biological engineering, Strain 138 is the first strain known to infect normal humans. Its symptoms are deadly, and due to its high contamination rate, it was responsible for killing 93% of the world's population..." But they're trying to stop it. Hopefully they will in season 3. |
The world needs a good plague. Starting in Africa and moving to the Middle East is probably the best starting point.

Places like Africa have problem with it due to them living in unsanitary conditions. Farm animals in direct contact with people in villages and the cultural things like the families bathing the bodies of those whom died. It coming to the US or most of Europe wouldn't be an issue but, some of the poorer Asian countries or even China would have problems, probably South America too as many people there live in close contact with farm animals and so on. The real problem is, the more people it infects, the more chances it has to mutate and become more contagious. |

Ebola so far has not found the habitat of African cities hospitable. Quote:
Ebola is not an airborne virus that is highly contagious supposedly but how have 500 people been infected? Bodily fluids like HIV? |
