The Best Guitar Solo in the History of Rock n Roll...

Fuck the world:

:D

MediaGuy 07-04-2014 08:44 PM

Just listened to it again. I'm not wrong.

And plus, it's just one of the great songs of all time. All Time. Period.

:D

2MuchMark 07-04-2014 08:48 PM

What makes it the "best" guitar solo?

Spunky 07-04-2014 09:03 PM

Eddie Van Halen-Eruption

Rob 07-04-2014 09:50 PM

The guitar has never done anything for me. Acoustic or eclectic, neither really struck a chord. Puns aside, I'm not a big guitar fan. Nothing personal, I think it's a great background tool, but it just doesn't sound right as a solo. The same could be said about drum solos, I mean really. Now play an alto sax or piano solo, and panties start dropping.

MediaGuy 07-04-2014 10:08 PM

No. The greatest thing about the solo of Sympathy for the Devil is that it's a one-note solo. Genius.

:D

Good to know you wear panties. Based on your opinion of the guitar I think we could have guessed though.

For me I don't know if I have a favorite, both of Slash's solos on November Rain are up there. SRV's cover of "Little Wing" as well and some of Santana's early work like "Black Magic Woman" and similar stuff.

Don't know which guitar solo is the best in the history of rock n roll but I know Jimmy Page plays it.

That Keith Richards solo on "Sympathy" does indeed fit perfectly in the song and that harsh tone on it was just...well...perfect.

As far as players who can play real fast, etc. I guess that it doesn't seem all that impressive next to Eddie and others who are so technically skilled.

But for being a part of communicating the idea of the song...yep, it's one of the best.

And actually communicating an idea with an instrument can be conceptually a lot more difficult than just wiggling your fingers as fast as you can on a piece of wood with 6 strings. :)

But like DynaMo said...it's definitely NOT a "one note solo".

I read an interview with Eric Clapton in Guitar Player many, many years ago where he talked about the "less is more" theory. He said he has been searching his whole life to be able to play a 1 note solo and have it mean something.

The guitar player from a Pink Floyd cover band I saw once told me that it's not the notes that Roger Waters chooses to play, it's the notes he chooses not to play... I wasn't sure if my mind was blown or if I wasn't high enough for the conversation.

MaDalton 07-05-2014 12:01 PM

i always prefer something melodic, memorable over just showing off technical skills

If that is the best guitar solo of all time then what is this at the end:

Vendzilla 07-05-2014 02:16 PM

My favorite group, been around for a long time and still rocking it after all these years, just a guitar, a bass and a drum set and they can still fill the arenas of the world. Their sound belongs to them and only them

I believe the best one note guitar solo has been credited to Neil Young in "Cinnamon Girl" which has been covered by nearly *everyone* including Friday nite bar bands.

Supz 07-05-2014 10:38 PM

My favorite.

6:30 mark on this one. Live. Sick.

"Blue Sky" by the Allman Brothers. Both Duane and Dickie's solos make this one of my all time favorites.

vegasbobby 07-06-2014 12:50 AM

He may not win, but he is bad ass. Only one of this guy.

ilnjscb 07-06-2014 12:55 AM

Two opposite sides of the coin in well known solos - freebird and comfortably numb

SilentKnight 07-06-2014 05:57 AM

Eric Clapton and Duane Allman's solo on "Layla".

David Gilmour on "Comfortably Numb".

gibbons plays the longest phrases I've heard on the guitar.... always loved maggot brain

and John 5

and this crazy fucker

tony286 07-06-2014 06:15 AM

Shine on you crazy diamond
I will be alright without you
Becks Bolero

Eddie Van Halen was great but it seemed he never really growed as a player. He is like a one trick pony. Where you have someone like Clapton who transformed himself a few times in his life.

tony286 07-06-2014 06:17 AM

I thought you guys would find this interesting.

The amazing thing about neil young solos is he's not known as a lead guitarist and certainly not a technical one, but he killed it with this and a handful of others.

WAY too many over time to choose just one... BUT, this is one of my favorites... Long song... Solo is at the end

Randy Had some Awesome Solos Over the mountain is my top for his solos

SykkBoy 07-07-2014 07:51 AM

I'm a whammy bar massacre solo kind of guy...I know it may not be as technical as a lot of the examples in this thread, but they often make sense in the type of music I enjoy...

one of my favorite solos ever though is Hanneman's solo in AntiChrist

video is a little crude...

Kerry King's solo is ok in the song, but I really dig Hanneman's....it's nothing fancy or "technical" but fits the song so well

Where is the solo? I hear not only guitar, bit also other instruments. Or you mean solo is when there is less than 2 guitars?
Sorry, have NO idea about rock music :)

Best guitar player alive.

SykkBoy 07-08-2014 09:51 AM
