Saudi Arabia deploys 30,000 soldiers to border with Iraq: al-Arabiya TV
DUBAI (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia has deployed 30,000 soldiers to its border with Iraq after Iraqi soldiers withdrew from the area, Saudi-owned al-Arabiya television said on Thursday.
The world's top oil exporter shares an 800-km (500-mile) border with Iraq, where Islamic State insurgents and other Sunni Muslim militant groups seized towns and cities in a lightning advance last month. King Abdullah has ordered all necessary measures to protect the kingdom against potential "terrorist threats", state news agency SPA reported on Thursday. The Dubai-based al-Arabiya said on its website that Saudi troops fanned into the border region after Iraqi government forces abandoned positions, leaving the Saudi and Syrian frontiers unprotected. The satellite channel said it had obtained a video showing some 2,500 Iraqi soldiers in the desert area east of the Iraqi city of Karbala after pulling back from the border. full article... |

It is a mess. And on hand I think we should stay out. On the other hand, if we stay out and this kind of country / government becomes the new standard in the middle east... How will that effect us twenty years from now?
Seems the UK is already having a lot of problems. |
we created this mess when we over threw Saddam

But be that as it may, Saddam kept a lid on things in his country. Bush Sr. was smart enough to recognize that.. his son not so much. |

for the rest of us, however, we have been reading the very available online material that outlines, quite clearly, this has very little to do with 'the culture', and more to do with 'what happens when you give bad men a lot of money, weapons, and people to kill' this, fine sir, sums us up. |

Richard, before you go too far out there...these people have been killing each other for thousands of years. It didn't just start.
I know that we Westerner's like to believe the universe rotates around us. But these people have killed each other for longer than any of our countries have even been in existence. I agree we should NEVER have armed these people. And the USA is always trying to stick it's nose in everybody's business. But history shows what that region's people do. It IS in there culture. Which is why it was retarded to get involved there in the first place. You can't try to judge them based on our way of thinking. It doesn't work. That's why our "MidEast Policy" always fails. |

we're civilized now! we kill people for money and cheezies and shit |

The Middle East is prime example of what religion does to countries if left to run amok. The Middle East at one point had the most advanced civilizations on this planet however the fact that they revolved around their religious beliefs never allowed them to move very far away from the stone ages.
The advances of Europe, America came because we realized when to sideline the religious kooks. You can bet your ass if the West hadn't tamed the churches we would also be locked in the stone ages with those in the Middle East. This should be reason alone to vote any fucker out of office that caters to the religious loonies above all else. |

The simple fact is their populations were kept dumbed down which made them easier to rule. Had their populations been aloud to break free of their religious chains they would have most likely been much more advanced today. This should be a warning to what can happen even to this country if politicians are aloud to dumb down our populace by pushing religious agendas as which is so popular with the right wing today. |

The Crusades and then Ghengis Khan brought the end to the golden age of Islam. The discovery of oil to me is the worst thing that ever happened to the Arab world. |

He's right. The Sumerians in what is now Iraq were the first true civilization. Here is a recent quote about them: Sumerologist Samuel Noah Kramer asserts "No people has contributed more to the culture of mankind than the Sumerians" and yet it is only comparatively recently that we have built up a knowledge of the existence of this ancient culture. They were THE most advanced civilization of their time. I would also point out that a couple of thousand years later a group known as EGYPTIANS were the greatest civilization on Earth. So no...make that HELL NO...they haven't been at their "height" with Islam. |

The origin of the hate filled divide between Sunnis and Shi'ites was a dispute over the succession when Muhammad died. So ridiculous it makes you cry - human beings killing each other over different interpretations of a fairy tale they both believe is real. We shouldn't be involved with their internal wars, no doubt we make things worse by taking sides when it's to our political and economic advantage. But those who think we are the cause, we didn't start the fire and if we left them alone for 100 years they'd still be killing each other and for no reason whatsoever still want Israel obliterated. Hate is a way of life there, always be needing to hate somebody and blame their problems on. Meanwhile a small percentage of them live like kings on the trillions of dollars of oil money while the people live in ignorance and poverty. A friend who has been over there tried to tell me how large and affluent the middle class is in Saudi Arabia. |
That's what crockett was saying Mutt.
That part of the world was once THE most advanced. They should be thousands of years ahead of the rest of the world if not for religion dumbing them down. That was the whole point. |

Religion's entire purpose is to dumb people down in order to control them. |

I won't say religion was always a bad thing as it was a useful tool during colonization, but as man progressed into the modern era, the west didn't let religion hold it back like those in the Middle East did. |
For anyone whom thinks this can't happen in the good ole USA.. This was Afghanistan in the 50's and 60's.. In a little over 50 years they went from being a country in the middle of a industrial revolution with "normal" people, to what we have today, which is a ass backwards country that seems barely out of the stone ages.
