Do you like Leftovers?

As in the HBO series?

I watched the pilot last night, it looks like it could be the latest big thing.

Athiests are going to be divided on it. Christians are going to be divided on it. Some will use it as a vehicle to preach the folly of the unbelievers, others will use it to show how wrong religion is.

And still others are just going to plain love it for what it is, that being an incredibly well-written well-cast and well-produced very entertaining series that is worth watching. And I say all that from watching just ONE episode. That's something I've never done before.

All I know is, when the Mayor says "We're here today to honor those who are LOST...", I found the irony in that statement to be the premise for the entire show, because... it's not the one's who have disappeard who are "lost", it's all those who have been left behind who are truly lost.

Check this show out.

And eat your leftovers. Don't be a food waster. :D

Who would waste it and why? Plus sometimes it tastes better than the original portion :1orglaugh

A few weeks from now after everyone here has woken up and has seen a few episdes of this they'll all be yap yap yapping on here about it.

I can already tell just by who's in it and the directors/producers behind it that this is going to be a huge series.

candyflip 06-30-2014 04:49 PM

Certain things I love to eat the next day and certain things I won't touch.

But since you meant the show, I have to queued up to watch later this evening and am definitely interested.

It looks pretty cool. I haven't seen it yet, but do plan to check it out.

MrBottomTooth 06-30-2014 04:52 PM

I couldn't get into it. Although I am going to keep watching to see if that changes. I feel it may be a case like Under the Dome that makes a great short story or premise but just can't stand up as a full tv series.

sandman! 06-30-2014 05:05 PM

i saw the first episode maybe it will be good the first episode was average at best.

So what are those white robes? The people who were lost 3 years ago? Does that chick, Chiefs daughter, know that her mom is insane in that house?
And why do you speak of religion? Is that significant at all, besides the usual thing when people try to explain unexplainable things with "it's Gods doing" :)

mineistaken 06-30-2014 06:01 PM

Also it reminded me of "The 4400" which was interesting and unusual but not A list.

Did you actually watch the show or were you texting while watching? :helpme

Okay, one by one here goes....

The white robes --- I wondered that myself for a while, but by the end of the episode it was pretty clear they are a cult that has formed, made up of people who have given up hope of any of the departed ones ever returning. They feel so strongly that it's time for people to give up on that hope that they're willing to stop talking, and they're willing to get the shit beat out of them as long as they can further their majorly passive-aggressive crusade to make everyone else "wake up", so to speak. There's probably more to them than that as well but that's how it looks so far.

The chief's daughter --- I'm not sure what she knows. If I had to guess I'd say she probably does know. The son as well probably knows. The dissapearance event has taken a huge toll on this family, obviously. The grandfather went batshit crazy, the wife is in the cult, the son and daugher are both distraught and seem to have no hope, and the only one holding anything together by a thread is the dad (chief of police).

Why do I speak of religion?? This is the part I really have to wonder whether you paid any attention at all to the show, or know anything whatsoever about religion at all. Do you? Or are you like a lot of athiests who dismisses a whole entire part of human history without even knowing a thing about it.

Ever hear of something called "The rapture"? Look it up if you haven't. But it says it right at the start of the show, about the disappearances possibly being that biblical event taking place, or at least people (in the show, in the story) believing that it might be that. There's a reverend or priest in the show who is arguing against it being the rapture. There's also a guy (that black guy) who has himself set up as some sort of prophet or something. Then there's that white robed cult, and cults themselves usually come with some sort of religious aspect to them.

Why do I speak about religion indeed.

And someone mentioned Under the Dome. That show has a more local setting, whereas this series, although a local story as well, involves a global event. I see there being far FAR more depth to this series than under the dome will ever have. We'll have to keep watching to see if it has as much of a science fiction flavour to it though, because it's really hard to say if the cause of the disappearances is sci-fi/ufo related or God related.

Either way put down the smart phone and pay attention next episode. :D

Honestly I could not tell if I liked it or not from the first episode

mozadek 07-01-2014 03:19 AM

Judging by the trailer the show looks boring. I will give the show a try when there has been around five episodes that have already aired so I can watch them in a mini marathon.

Well at the beginning it looked like the mother was one of those disappeared people. And later it turned out she was in the cult. So my question - why chief's family went crazy if nobody from their family was taken?

That is all cool. And that is what I have said - when unexpplainable things happen people turn to religion. It has been like that for centuries, so it would be surprising if there were no people trying to explain such an unexplainable event by religious thing. Naturally. And of course the outcome would be no religious disappearance lol. So yes, I am not sure why religion is so important here, it is just a natural part of the things, would be strange otherwise.

The past few weeks I have been blown away by the latest episodes. Crazy stuff going on. One of my favorite shows on TV.

Wickedpictures 08-19-2014 10:27 AM

Jasminevsmedia 08-19-2014 10:43 AM

This show looks good! I'm gonna have to check it out tonight!

aka123 08-19-2014 10:59 AM

No I don't, too grim. If I want to watch sad movies or series, we have abundance of those from domestic production.
