Is it worth it? :) I seem to be looking for any excuse to get another monitor. |
Looks pretty bad ass
|
I wonder how it is when I assume most sites and software aren't written to be viewed on a 4k monitor.
|
Fuck Samsung

I was curious enough to get one today. It's pretty impressive overall and while it doesn't have the color accuracy of an apple cinema, the UHD resolution makes up for it. The price is awesome for what you get. Truth to be told its kind of an overkill for most users. This is a lot of desktop space to use, but in most cases it won't enhance someone's productivity :)

To get an idea of the space such resolution gives you, I uploaded up a snapshot

i'm holding out for 256K

Unless you are working in 4K video, maybe you should hold off? I'm wondering if the text etc will be too small to see comfortably at that resolution. And since it's only 28", I don't think you'll get to take full advantage of an extended desktop.
On my desk I have 2 x 27" monitors (Apple iMacs) that I use as both 2 separate computers AND an extended desktop for either computer. It works really well and sitting at about 2.5 to 3 feet in front of them, I can read everything on screen at the highest resolution, no problem. I'm just guessing but I don't think I would be as productive using a single 28" 4k monitor as I am with 2x27" 2k monitors. Then again, if you buy the new Apple Mac Pro's, this Samsung monitor is what - 20% of the price of the Apple 4k monitor or thereabouts, right? So maybe its a really good deal. If you buy it please let me know if you like it or not. |
I have the Seiki 39" 4K. It's great for coding. You'd have to sit right up to the monitor to see anything at 28" though. At 4K you really need a larger monitor.
Also, most 4K monitors are limited to 30 Hz. It's fine for watching video and reading text but gaming and even moving the mouse will feel awkward and sluggish. |

Mark, there's no apple 4k display released yet. When it will come out my guess is will replace the existing model keeping the price the same. They dont have much of an option at this point.

The monitor I want is http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=210-ACBL 3840 x 21601 at 60 Hz (DP1.2) If you run HDMI though you are at 30HZ. Only 3 grand for it too. |
