When Puppies & Porn Collide (In A Bad Way) - Seeking Advice
You might have noticed an earlier post that Angie and I put up here about our new litter of English Cream Golden Retriever puppies. As soon as our Dam was confirmed pregnant, we started to reach out to all the people that had filled out applications and / or shown interest. None responded back. At 4 weeks old, we started listing them on the AKC breeder directory & board, along with reaching out to the Golden Retriever boards. We actually had a fair amount of interest, until.....
Worlds Collided.... The owner/breeder of record on all of the AKC registrations, animal orthopedic databases, etc is "Angie Rowntree". In this day and age anyone interested in buying a purebred puppy will do due diligence, make sure the parents are registered with the AKC and have all clearances. We could not figure out what happened, until the nastygrams started from interested buyers. Why? Go google "Angie Rowntree". What appears to be happening is that puppy shoppers are taking the obvious next step of due diligence and googling Angie Rowntree to make sure she is not a bad breeder. And then they instantly find out that she's not a bad breeder - she's a PORNOGRAPHER. In addition to the nastygrams, there have been a goodly number of phone calls and emails to Angie from interested buyers, but as soon as she sends them back the basic AKC registration docs, that's the end of their interest. So, now we have 8 beautiful puppies ready for homes July 2nd, but who would want a puppy bred by a pornographer? Here is a little smilebox vid of the litter to take a look at: Angie's incredibly cute puppy video montage and details about the pups and parents: puppy details page. (much more info available) We looked into getting Angie's name modified on the AKC database, but they told us it would take at least six months and she would need to legally change her name, get a new passport, and submit legal change of name documents to them for consideration. Not a very good option. We also considered having Angie misspell her name on any email replies, but as soon as the potential buyer gets the registration docs and go to AKC for verification - BAM - Google tells all..... [-x Anyone have any ideas? Or want to buy a puppy? Or have pet relevant sites? contact me. Colin and Angie |
Hmmmm nope.

Good idea to use an alias when connected to this business when you have a pretty rare real name.
I guess you know that now, though. |
Buy a wig, do her make up completely differently from normal and change her clothes too - make sure she looks nothing like any google image search results of herself but can still look like this new appearance for anyone that comes to view the dogs. Have an About The Breeder page on your website with photos of her done up like that and a biography that leaves out any mention of porn. Then set up profiles on lots of different websites of her just as a dog breeder with the new physical appearance and hope some of the buyers will see it as just an unfortunate name coincidence.

And if a proper legal name change is needed then start doing it now. Don't look back in 6 months time and wonder why you didn't get on with it because you've still got the same problem.

yeah. she should have known better being a porn producer for 20 years to use her real name for AKC registration. but, the deed is done! |

thanks :-) Colin |
My daughter's two goldens died a couple days ago; this might be too soon and definitely a little far away.
I would skip mentioning they are registered if it is becoming an issue. |
people are really weird. what bearing would being a pornographer have on how someone treats puppies?? very strange.

The dichotomy (when worlds collide) in this that potentially effect all of us is here.......
Someone like Angie (sssh.com), Michael Klein (Hustler), Kelly Holland (Penthouse), John Stagliano, Steve Hirsch, etc need to use their real names to get mainstream media coverage. Angie has been on countless Fox, HBO, CNET, etc interviews and mainstream simply will not cover a story unless the sources are "real names". But, when doing this, their real names, @twitter, FB, Google+ accounts go into the media sausage mill and are quoted as source material by google and bing. At this level of dealing with international mainstream press, there is no way to simply "make shit up and wear a wig" if you want the coverage. Things are more complex now.... On the Porn side, now that google needs to have a "real person" in front of an adult site, it forces people to be upfront with who they really are to get listed. The days of "there are no real girls on the internet" has passed in this regard. Everything is accountable. When worlds collide indeed! Thoughts? Colin |
Why didn't you setup a company for the breeding business? It looks more professional and people have to dig through more data to find her.
The quickest solution is probably to setup some new breeding pages and bury the results that you don't want people to see. |
Set up a website regarding the puppies and about Angie the breeder. Good idea that the other guy suggested to make her look different and use those pics on the site. If anyone asks just say "Oh God no she is not involved in porn, that is someone else with the same name".

Good luck man I wish I could handle a puppy right now. One day but not today. Sorry you are having issues. There's always Craig's List....:) Good luck!
|
Man this is some bullshit. :(
Sorry to hear of your troubles Colin. Unfortunately, I have no advice. Good luck with the situation. |
I wonder how much your location has to do with the attitude; I'd be surprised if that happened in SoCal
|
My own thought is that I wouldn't want anybody who is narrow-minded enough to care about this within a mile of "my" puppies. Puppies need good and kind people who are not idiots. But all of my dogs are rescue mutts, so what do I know? ;-)

I can understand the apprehension on the buyers part. It's bad enough when your dog from a regular breeder watches you have sex. Buying a dog from pornographers, there's just that much of a higher standard to perform to. Not everyone can handle that much more pressure in the bedroom.

i wouldn't take that breeding thing so seriously
