On one hand I agree with this. Here in the US we are taught that the US won the war, and most of us believe this. And I believe this for a long time until I learned otherwise. No one fought more or lost more than Russia.

However, we tend to think of WWII as being fought in Europe against Germany. And for most countries it was exactly that. But for the United States, the war in Europe against Germany was only half of the war. The other half of the war was fought across the Pacific Ocean against Japan. Everyone concentrated on "Germany first" but no one really fought Japan except for the US with some assistance from the UK. Russia, for example, although they were close to Japan, didn't declare war until August 1945, shortly after Hiroshima and Nagasaki was bombed, and Japan surrendered days later.

And of course Hollywood has given the world the impression that the US did win the war.

Truth Matters. Opinion should not.

And?

Russia lost the Russo-Japanese of 1904, lost more ground to Japan in 1918, shit in their pants when Germany and Japan signed the Anti-Comintern Pact in 1936, and then for the next few years had a bunch of "minor incidents" the largest of which was Lake Khasan which took place in 1939 (Where only a thousand people on both sides were killed). Prior to 1941 Russia lost less than 10k in such minor battles, did little more from 1941 until August 1945 where they had a major invasion against Japan, Manchuria really, which was already defeated. That was either the day before we nuked them or the day after, I cannot remember which.

If I recall correctly, Russia and Japan never formally signed a peace treaty at the close of World War II and still dispute the Kuril islands, which are in control of Russia.
