George Jung, coke dealer who inspired film 'Blow,' out of jail
 

The cocaine-smuggling kingpin played by Johnny Depp in ?Blow? is out of prison after nearly 20 years.

Massachusetts-born George Jung, who helped the Medellin cartel import as much as 85% of the cocaine available in the U.S. in the late ?70s, on Monday left a minimum-security prison in New Jersey a few months ahead of schedule and was bound for a halfway house on the West Coast, reports Boston magazine.

?Boston George? was sentenced to 60 years in 1994 but had his sentence reduced for testifying against a former accomplice. In a 2000 interview with PBS, he described himself as a ?coke star? during his smuggling heyday, who ?had a lot of money and unlimited access to cocaine and even if I looked like Bela Lugosi I still had the most beautiful women on the planet.?

Those were the days.

There is a book called Killing Pablo about the hunt for Pablo Escobar that Jung appears in. At the height of his power Escobar was sending multiple jetliners full of cocaine into the US every month and Jung was his guy in the US handling most of it.

It was crazy to see just how big that operation was.

Interesting to look behind the movie. And that movie was great!

Sure, the man had an interesting life and story but he was just COKE dealer and that is all..... and a coke snorter. He fucked his life up big time and lost his daughter in the process. He admits it throughout the movie.

It was a great movie. I'd personally skip calling him a great man.

I've hated Penelope Cruz ever since I watched that. One of those times in which I despised a character so much that the actor/actress that played it was forever linked to it in my mind.

I watched the movie and it's good, nice to see how people get in such big deal

Really? Interesting take. For me it only served to raise my admiration for her as an actress. She played that role of "entitled psycho-she-bitch" to a T and beyond.
