1024x768 or 1280x1024

I've used 1280x1024 for the past year. I love it..i know there are higher resolutions but my monitor wont go up that high.

I switched to 1024x768 tonight (which is the highest average resolution for all our web visitors). I can actually see now w/o squinting!

Really tho...i always do my designs in 1280x1024...and I forget that im supposed to be doing them for lower resolution monitors.

rambling on...

I must be blind... I cant see shit on 600x800

That depends on the size of your monitor. I run 1280x1024 on my 17" and 1600x1200 on my 19" LCD. If I run 1280 on the 19", everything looks too fucking big.

Do your designs so they work in both 800x600 primarily, and 1024x768 a close second. Someone posted stats on here awhile ago from a very busy site, and the majority of the surfers had monitors at 800x600, and 1024x768 a close second, which will be the norm soon with the advent of 17" and 19" monitors being sold with most systems. 640x480 is dead, I don't even worry about them anymore....

640x480 is dead. 800x600 is what ppl should be building sites for, since it then fits nicely on the majority of monitors.

ya I keep my tables at width="800"

and my photoshop work..i might make the width 900 pixels wide but that only if im gonna be slicing and cutting out the extra 100 pixels

would be stupid to go over that

You could always make your tables dimensions "100%" or "50%" (etc); this should solve any resolution differences. :)

Plat 03-08-2003 10:16 PM

DOH.. ya I meant 800x600 as the most used resolution.

must be the beer talking tonight :glugglug

thats too risky...and on top of that.. say you made your main table that surrounds everything (if its the case) and it's like 80%...well then if someone with a low res see its...gonna be all fuxed up.

Go with pixels. best way

I run 1152 by whatever on my 21"...

You should never design for a fixed width. This isn't 1997.

it depends on if you have alot of graphics or not

if you got graphics at the top or wherever that wont go below 800pixels then ok you dont need to worry about it

pixels pixels pixels!!!
If you use percent, you are gonna have some fucked up looking websites!
Try doing tables in about 740 pixels wide (or close) and your site will look awesome in 800x600, and decent in 1024x768.
You can experiment with the 740 pixel width, but leave room for scroll bars. If you go 800 pixels wide for a table, you will have side scrolling which is annoying as hell. :2 cents:
