Google Goes After Ebay

http://seekingalpha.com/news/1767183...ore-ads?uprof=

"An analysis done by SearchEngine Journal estimates eBay.com (EBAY -1.1%) has seen a 33% drop in search traffic thanks to Google's (GOOG +1.3%) new Panda 4.0 algorithm update, and InterActiveCorp's (IACI -1.1%) Ask.com a 50% drop."

They're going after everyone. If they keep it up google results will all be non-monetizing informational pages. How exciting.

Ugh. I do like the ease of using Google, but their ability to decide the fate of others and the knowledge humans will access is getting unfortunate.

RyuLion 05-22-2014 12:14 PM

Good and bad.....

signupdamnit 05-22-2014 12:17 PM

I get a kick out of how they always say it only affected 0.3% percent of sites or such when obviously it hit many more than they claim.

Watch though. Since these are big companies they cave and give them their traffic back mostly within a month. The rules are different for some.

It's just Google's way of leaning on ebay and InterActive to pressure them to buy more Adwords advertising.

And a company wanting to profit from doing business is a bad thing how?

I simply stated the facts and didn't comment on whether their motives were good or bad.

People still hate Microsoft, so Google got lots of time before most people figure the issue.

Expressed as a percentage it sounds small and insignificant, but if you apply that to the total number of websites on the net it actually turns out to be a very large number.

Consider that there are over 100 million .com domains alone, now add in every other TLD, subdomain etc... conservatively I think you'd be looking at more than half a billion sites, and of course many, many times more that number in pages.

1% of 500 million is 500,000!

The reason why these SERP changes are minor and gradual is to manage earnings releases for Wall Street. Rather than have huge one time revenue and earnings gains, it's better for Google to show consistent and predictable growth from quarter to quarter.

PornDiscounts-V 05-23-2014 10:40 AM

Exactly.

Bingo.

Rule #1 in business: a company will do whatever it has to do (in most cases) to stay IN business.
