Goodbye Camaro... hello Volt!
So, I really love Tesla's, but the price is out of range since we plan to buy a new house this summer, soooo... I am trading in my Camaro for a CHEVY VOLT, and I can't wait! I'll be taking delivery in about a week.
The Volt is a plug-in electric car. The range is about 75 Kilometers but the car has a gas-powered generator that takes over when battery power is depleted. Considering my average commute though, I will rarely if ever have to buy gas for it. Please email all your republican friends and let them know that the keystone pipeline is no longer necessary. The world is slowly evolving and getting away from smelly, polluting, inefficient gasoline. Woo! |

Almost 40% of your electric ……. but go ahead and feel superior.

Lol at 75 km electric range and 15 hour charge times. You're still sucking off the teet of the gas & oil industry if you drive one of these, unless you barely drive anywhere in a day. If that is the case, a true liberal environmentalist would choose public transit. It's the only responsible choice.

I suggest filtering out homes with attached garages in your house search. http://sadhillnews.com/wp-content/up...ill-news-1.jpg |

If I do run low on batter, the gas engine powers a GENERATOR, which in turn powers the electric motor. If that is the case, a true liberal environmentalist would choose public transit. It's the only responsible choice.[/QUOTE] Quote:

My cousin drives one of these. He refuses to park it in his garage now and it takes more than 4 hours to charge, even though that's the number they give.
You were gonna buy a Tesla and now you'll settle for an electric Chevy Cruze? Come on now. |
My goal is to go off the grid completely... I went to a solar power seminar last weekend, so that will happen in the next year or so. After that I'm pretty confident it will be a Tesla.

Also looks like you can't just use a regular 240 volt outlet, you have to buy one of their charging stations. Check out the price of these: http://www.pluginnow.com/charging_stations |
Mark, when I saw the stats on the Chevy Volt...I wasn't pleased.
The Tesla is of course THE one. But if you can't afford that at the moment and just really, really want an electric car...the Nissan Leaf appears to be far superior: http://www.nissanusa.com/electric-ca...cc=0.240189300 But I guess it's a little late for you to change things. I'm guessing you'll enjoy the Volt. A new car is always fun no matter what. I just think you could have made a better decision on it IF you had consulted with GFY first! lol |

off the grid is an overrated fairy tail. People do it, but spend far far too much and are still disappointed. Does anyone ever practice moderation anymore? |

There are currently Two hundred and Fifty 240 Volt charging stations in Quebec, and 10 of them within a few kilometres of me, and 2 of them within 4 blocks of me. Quote:
And yes, Tesla IS king... but if I have to choose between a Tesla and a house, I'll take a house... Quote:

Why dont you buy a car built by a Canadian manufacturer?

Seems like you should know this stuff if you are picking one up in a week. |

Nnnooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Tell you what. When I get it I'll post some pictures of it with me beside it, or driving it, or plugging it in, etc. Maybe you can photoshop a picture of me electrocuting my balls on it or something. :) Quote:
I have a question for you. You are sounded by electrically powered stuff. Your computer, home stereo, TV's, lights, cellphone, toaster, stove, etc. Subways are electric. Maybe you even have an electric toothbrush. Why not an electric car? For casual driving at least, isn't it at least, an interesting alternative to gasoline? |

That price is for the PART ONLY moron. If you want more than a 1 year warranty on it then you have to go through their recommended supplier for installation which is close to $1500 on top of that. You might want to spring for the $1500 installation as well to get the better warranty, because lots of people have been having their chargers crap out at just over a year. |

Nothing to do with Nissan. Quote:

But hey! So what if it wasn't! OMG Better stop all electric car sales and stay on Gasoline forever. Thank god for The Koch Brothers, and BP, and the Tar Sands.. please let us pay too much for energy while we choke every person and animal on the planet at the same time. Fucking H christ... |

So why dont you buy a Canadian car? |

it's a hybrid. a great deal of money has been spent by GMC to even use the term 'electric' and get all the tax benefits, et al, in order to market it to people who get a hard on for 'ELECTRIC / GREEN / ORGANIC' so what you have done, is purchased something that degrades the whole premise of an electric car well done. |
I personally have no interest in an electric car as I figure a gas 4 cylinder is cheaper and good enough. Pay extra for electric and then when it does need work either expensive or impossible to fix yourself without melting the neighborhood. If I did consider one doubt I'd do a Volt.

Very sad day, what kind of man sells his Camaro for that woofter car :helpme:error:Oh crap:mad:
Also, it is interesting, the batterys in these cars are part of the problem...... Source |

It's not a hybrid. It's an "EV", or "Extended Range Vehicle". In an EV, the electric motor powers the wheels, and a gas motor turns a generator which powers the electric motor when the batteries die. All of the cars momentum comes from the electric motor. A Hybrid car uses both motors to power the wheels, and has no generator. The cars momentum comes from both an electric and gas powered motor. However, there are some plug-in hybrids that switch between both gas and electric. Regardless, I think I understand your point. I would love to have a car like a Tesla that is pure electric. Having to carry around a gasoline engine (plus tank, oil, etc) is a waste and therefore less efficient, but oh well... in my opinion its a great first step. |

Ya know, for a bunch of people who would be considered "smart" by most people because of the high tech tools they use, the haters in this thread really seem to love to show off their ignorance. Think about it. You shoot your load any time a new CPU or GPU hits the market, or anytime you find a new way of doing things that is faster and more efficient than the previous way, yet as soon as it comes to even considering an alternative to fossil fuels, the haters jump to trash it in a weak attempt to keep their love for dangerous, volatile, polluting, expensive and OLD fuel alive. /sad. |

anyway, it's a fun ride, best of luck |
according to wiki it's a hybrid:
The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle manufactured by General Motors |

Good luck with that. |
Gas or electric. No matter what - you live in Montreal...home to the worst drivers on the planet.
Enjoy the new car, though. Hope you like it. :thumbsup |
