Paysite owners -- what percentage of your members are women?

I've heard anecdotal evidence that 10-20% of 4men paysite members are actually women. I was recently told by the Suicide Girls webmaster that 50% of their members are female which is obviously extremely high. What's the percentage at your site?

drunkdollars 03-07-2003 10:22 PM

Wow 50% is crazy but suicide girls is a different kind of site

NetRodent 03-07-2003 10:23 PM

We don't ask our customers what gender they are. However in the past when we estimated gender break down by the billing name we saw that about 30% of our memberships were from female names.

Hard to say actually....most paysites catering to men don't gather demographic info from their members when they sign up -- like sex. Most don't even have little surveys running to gather that info...

In most cases, the only way to tell is by the name of the CC holder that's joined. Even then you can't claim that it's solo women that are joining -- you've got couples and the ever-elusive bf/husband/roommate/son who uses their gf/wife/roommate/mom's CC to sign up.... :)

I think we get our information from many of the same sources.

Sure, I realize most sites won't have totally reliable break-downs. But I'd still be very interested in educated guesses :) For example, I suspect that the CC holder names *is* a decent rough-and-ready indicator of female membership, as the female CC names who are actually male members should be more than balanced by the male CC names who are actually women. If anything the number of female CC names is probably less than the actual number of women viewing the site because a fair chunk of those male names will be couples.

chupacabra 03-07-2003 10:51 PM

on a related side note, we've found on an average that at least 70% of our chargebacks would come from female names, all claiming fraud..

ya, the men who use wife/girlfriend credit card.

No honey, NOT ME...:winkwink:

BritishTwinks 03-08-2003 03:25 AM

Our gay sites get a lot of female members. They write in with more feedback than the guys too.

UnseenWorld 03-08-2003 03:53 AM

I don't ask the members of my pay site their sex. I think they probably want to maintain as much privacy as possible.

Rich 03-08-2003 03:57 AM

I think any numbers you hear are probably inflated at least a little by basly guys using their wife or girlfriend's card to join. :2 cents:

phogirl69 03-08-2003 04:11 AM

I've joined tons of paysites, but paysite owners can't tell I'm a female because I have a foreign name! My name isn't a typical name Lisa or Mary Ann, I'm asian and my parents gave me the most messed up sounding, ugliest, hard to pronounce name ever :(

I never use my real name and no one calls me by my real name in real life ( I have a nickname) except on all my legal docs, birth certificate, credit card and so forth...

Those are probably guys using their partners CC. Busted when the bill arrived.

lil2rich4u2 03-08-2003 04:39 AM

i agree men are the hornier of the 2.

Here is a snap of my stats from redpersonals.com ... youll see majority of my joins are from men!! almost ALL of them!!!

lil2rich4u2 03-08-2003 04:40 AM

oops, forgot to say how to tell, lol

at top of table, it says M | F | C

M = male
F = female
C = couple

good point.

may be worth it just to put a silent poll on there somewhere like "annonomysly tell us if your male or female" with 2 little check box.

this might help target your existing members better and increase retention

:2 cents:

There probably aren't many paysites asking the gender of their members, however the name on the credit cards should give a rough idea of the gender breakdown. As I said earlier in this thread:

If the percentage of females members is significant (and my guess is that it's at least 10% for most sites) it would be well-worthwhile taking that into consideration when selling a site and when tuning it for member retention.

Plus it would also suggest that there's a massive untapped opportunity in terms of marketing porn directly to women, who are afterall about half of the online population!

Actually in order to know whether this showed that men were the horniest you'd first need to know what percentage of your referrals were men and what percentage were women. It may be that you're referring 30 males for every one female. And it that were the case it might suggest that they're equally horny! :)

BTW, I have no doubt whatsoever that men are more interested in porn than women :) I simply find it intriguing that male-oriented porn sites might be attracting 10-20% (or more!) female members. And if that is the case, I suspect that adult web masters have drastically underestimated the potential for 4women porn!

lil2rich4u2 03-08-2003 05:37 AM

your logic is correct

my traffic is 100% personals toplist targetted, but i have no way of telling whats being referred to my site

:Graucho

Que? 03-08-2003 07:32 AM

I estimated 5 % when i had a more mixed content. When i niched towards teen the female members kind of disapeard...

Interlude 03-08-2003 09:35 AM

I think I can remember 5-6 female names showing up over the course of 5 years, so not a lot.

EscortBiz 03-08-2003 10:15 AM

not many females, but 50% of all bogus checks used have female names lol

thats interesting, i wonder why

sworld 03-08-2003 11:08 AM

20% of our members are female and about 10% our couples. One thing is for sure...women have great credit and their cards are usually not declined. Yes, there are a few that call and dispute charges but most of them pay their bills.

We love female customers!

Groove 03-08-2003 07:30 PM

OK, so far we have the percentage of female CC names used for memberships at 4MEN pornsites as:

SuicideGirls - 50%.
NetRodent - 30%.
ronin - 10%.
Que? - 5%.
Interlude - hardly any.
sworld - 20%.

That's an average of 19%!

Anyone else want to contribute some numbers?

Suicide girls isn't your average paysite though, that # shouldn't be included.

That's a fair enough comment :)

So the current tally without SG is 13%.

DyannaDoes 03-09-2003 02:22 AM

I was always at roughly 20%, just going off names. But in the amateur market the percentage is a little higher, especially if you are promoting a bi woman :thumbsup

Socks 03-09-2003 02:26 AM

We did a poll on ASS a few months back, had around 350 responses, and we *think* it was around 13% that chose female.

Groove 03-09-2003 06:46 PM

The current tally is:

NetRodent - 30%.
ronin - 10%.
Que? - 5%.
Interlude - hardly any.
sworld - 20%.
DyannaDoes - 20%.
Socks (ASS) - 13%

That's an average of 14%.

Anyone else got some numbers to contribute?

If 4men paysites have an everage 14% female membership. I think that speaks volumes for the potential profitability of sites designed specifically for women!
