Dont know if anyone brought this up

Scientists at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center used fiber-optic cables to transfer 6.7 gigabytes of data -- the equivalent of two DVD movies -- across 6,800 miles in less than a minute.

Yes they did, and its fucking great

stevo 03-07-2003 09:02 PM

sweet for technology, probably bad for paysites though - why rebill when they can download the entire site in 5 seconds :)

I dont think that would effect that but I do think the costs of running a site will go up. People will expect TV production quality.

I think that is when we as paysite owners will really need to consider the options afforded to us by DRM systems

maybe they'll rebill because you constantly update your site with fresh, new content?

DSL and Cable internet access do not run over fiber-optic cables and they never will.

Until we get fiber into the home, we're not gonna get any faster downloads.

who said anything about that?

i believe thats more of backbone thing,

you get pretty fast speed if you can afford fiber line to your house

which might be 10-15 years from now

I have BellSouth FITL on my DSL line. So you can run DSL over Fiber, but you need special software.

Sure, you CAN hit speeds of 6gig/sec..
cable CAN hit 1.5Mps and upload at 128K
alot of ISP's cap upload at 15K anyways
and whats the fastest you ever downloaded on 1.5 cable?
I hit 300-400K/s often with Videotron 'fast' internet.. not the extreme high speed.. with a sexy 22K upload...

I doubt we can hit 6gig without paying an arm and a leg.. and a left nut
