A glimpse into the future fuck dsl and cable
Dont know if anyone brought this up
http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/interne...ord/index.html Scientists at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center used fiber-optic cables to transfer 6.7 gigabytes of data -- the equivalent of two DVD movies -- across 6,800 miles in less than a minute. |
Yes they did, and its fucking great
|
sweet for technology, probably bad for paysites though - why rebill when they can download the entire site in 5 seconds :)
|
I dont think that would effect that but I do think the costs of running a site will go up. People will expect TV production quality.

DSL and Cable internet access do not run over fiber-optic cables and they never will.
Until we get fiber into the home, we're not gonna get any faster downloads. |

i believe thats more of backbone thing,
you get pretty fast speed if you can afford fiber line to your house which might be 10-15 years from now |

cable CAN hit 1.5Mps and upload at 128K alot of ISP's cap upload at 15K anyways and whats the fastest you ever downloaded on 1.5 cable? I hit 300-400K/s often with Videotron 'fast' internet.. not the extreme high speed.. with a sexy 22K upload... I doubt we can hit 6gig without paying an arm and a leg.. and a left nut |
