Mexican food is the worst. No quality, no variety, with a horrible overall taste.
I'm a food lover and this shit doesn't deserve to be called food. I have eaten in several mexican restaurants where i live and in other parts in the world. The first encounters were hugely disappointing. I kept trying different places to find out if the poor quality and lack of variety in flavours was just incidental. Because around here one of these restaurants is one of the most popular places, and so many people love mexican food.
Conclusion: It's all the same crap. The majority of people have terrible taste (which I knew already, but this is proof of it once again). Mcdonalds type of food comes to mind. Will not eat it anymore. Thought I'd share :thumbsup PS I feel for you Americans where this crappy food is part of your food culture now. I welcome any culinary addition anywhere, because it's always an enrichment - except for mexican food. It's the only food which is able to bring the overall culinary experience in any country down. |
You can get quality, but not in most places.
It's the slowcooked stuff that's nice. Restaurants dont do that. |
I agree to a point. When I lived in San Diego though, I had a few home cooked meals made by Mexican Friends, and they were lovely - Tacobell, not so much, however I do still yearn for a tacobell burrito from time to time :)

You're surprised you can't find good Mexican food in the Netherlands?
|
Mexican food from Campos to Echo Park trucks to the Restaurant Sanchez in West LA are the only things I miss of LA. That and the weed clinics.

The town I live in has this little hole in the wall place that only has two tables so about 99% of the stuff it to go, but it is very good. It is owned by a Mexican family and they make everything from scratch.

My favorite food, besides grilled fish.

Mexican food is excellent with plenty of variety and flavors. Pro tip if it involves a hard taco and iceberg lettuce, run away!

Many regional cuisines exist, often based upon cultural and foreign influences.[1] Indonesian cuisine varies greatly by region and has many different influences. Source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesian_cuisine Indonesian food is so enormously diverse. It has so many different influences and tastes that I can not take you seriously if you say it all tastes the same. Sorry man! |
You're probably getting that food with a bunch of sauce and melted cheddar cheese.
This is real Mexican food in these pics below. http://s3.amazonaws.com/foodspotting...jpg?1311014615 http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/med...las-marias.jpg http://s3-media2.ak.yelpcdn.com/bpho...SjYUfUGw/o.jpg http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/med...a-hacienda.jpg http://a4.urbancdn.com/w/s/t8/svlMzQx2H21tG0-640m.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kbs85yNVfz...00/birria2.JPG |

Authentic is completely subjective anyway. Cali mexican, Tex-mex both are different and damn good--given you don't eat in shit holes of course. authentic can be terrible too if you get a family run business who have been cooking it wrong for so long they have no idea what good tasting food is. |

What we mostly eat in the USA is Americanized Mexican food. real Mexican food is awesome. if you go to a Taco Bell in Mexico, it's called American fast food.
|
I made pulled chicken tacos, home-made tortillas, with guacamole and pickled onion, and Cilantro Lime rice last night for dinner. It was awesome. Mexican food has very diverse flavors. As mentioned above, if the food seems ubiquitous then it's most likely not authentic.

I was gonna say smthg about mexican food but I just can't get that Harmon pic out my head.

This rice flat noodle sorta lasagna thing, i don't know what it is called, but i know where to get it. Dumplings, i just like them. |

I knew a guy that was opening a Mexican restaurant in Australia many years ago. He sent his chefs to SoCal so they could learn what it is supposed to taste like. Amsterdam has some great food but anyone seeking Mexican food there has to be a little daft. |

Come to Los Angeles, there's plenty of great Mexican restaurants here. |
The fact is that most foreign food you eat in America has been dumbed down to suit the American palate, mild and bland. The same is true of Holland and the UK. Saying that there are a few exceptions, for example the UK has some of the best Indian food in the world due to the fact that many Indian people took the offer of a free passport when the UK pulled out of controlling Indian, they came over to use our social security system. The upside was great Indian food but little else.
When I lived in Holland I ate some of the best steaks (Tornados) I have ever tasted. And the pea soup was out of this world. Belgium fry?s are to die for. No matter what country you live in you can get a ton of bad food you have to know where to eat, when I lived in Hong Kong it took a while to find a real non westernized Chinese restaurant. The Mandarin Hotels Limo driver took me to his local hangout and the food was out of this world. In Penang, Malaysia I ate at a small hole in the wall with some Australian friends, compared to the more popular local restaurants the food was amazing, extremely hot and exactly what the locals eat. To find good Mexican food you need to visit Mexico City or if that is out of the question try some of the restaurants in New Mexico USA. I have had some of the best Mex food there.:2 cents: |

why wouldn't you feel sorry for Mexico, it's their food. Seems weird to feel the need to make USA look crappy (and then you feel for us over it) because we offer foods from our neighbors to the south. You must not be aware but we have Indonesian food here, in fact, plenty of tofu type cuisines like that here, Mexican is simply a small part of the variety of food in USA. |

Maybe you just have poorly functioning taste buds. Mexican food is delicious when prepared correctly.

Thanks for informing about Mexican food. I was wondering what I should think about it.

How about you click that wikipedia page and read it? :) There is actually many forms in a simple Nasi Goreng just alone. Nasi goreng ikan asin. Nasi goreng jawa. Nasi goreng kambing Nasi goreng pete. Nasi goreng putih. Nasi Goreng Arab. Nasi Goreng Jepang. Taste is open for discussion. The amount of variety is a fact though. The indonesian kitchen has influences from many of their islands and from many other countries as well. If you have been there and you only saw nasi goreng then you have been distracted by wanita adams for sure. :winkwink: |

This is a list of a few Mexican cooking styles or ingredients.
Yucatan Peninsula- Currently the menus in the Yucatan have much variety with influences from Asian cuisine as well as Arabic cuisine. You will also find a lot of native Mayan ingredients such as chaya, achiote, hard-boiled eggs, turkey, deer and honey. Some examples of Yucatan cuisine include Poc-Chuc, a pork dish with achiote and sour orange. Chiltomate, a sauce made with roasted tomatoes, chiles and onions. Papadzules, which are rolled tortillas stuffed with hard-boiled eggs and topped with a squash seed sauce as well as a tomato sauce. Baja California Peninsula- This region of Mexico is where the Caesar Salad was born. There are many stories surrounding the salads inception, but the ingredients are always the same. This area has a lot of Spanish influenced food and another dish this area is known for is it's paella. Fresh seafood gives the paella impeccable flavor. Baja California is also Mexico's primary wine growing region icluding Santo Tomas, San Antonio and San Vicente. You'll find Los Cabos on the Baja Peninsula which is where Fish Tacos became famous. Northern Mexico The traditional dishes of Northern Mexico include many that Mexican cuisine is known for. Items such as large, burrito sized flour tortillas and beef are readily used in this area. Pinto Refried Beans are a popular side dish as well as Spanish rice. Dried meat is common to this area as well as burritos which are not common in the south. Southern Mexico While Northern Mexico favors beef as the main meat, the south prefers chicken and vegetables. Corn tortillas are a staple to this area and are served at almost every meal. Black bean dishes are also a common find as well as dishes featuring plantains. Los Cabos- Cabo San Lucas is located at the southern tip of Baja California and features fresh seafood all year round. The fishermen leave before sunrise and spend hours capturing the freshest fish and shellfish around. Cabo is also where the fish taco became famous and you can find many different versions in just about any restaurant urango- This state is located in the northern area of Mexico a common dish is Barbacoa, which is a traditional dish of various meats steamed underground over coals in a pit. A signature dish from the area is Venado Asado, a venison dish. Other unique offerings include machaca which is a dried meat, and pitahaya a native fruit. A sweet fruit paste called Ate (AH-tay)is also from Durango. Jalisco- Known worldwide for it's production of high quality tequila, as well as the sauce covered sandwich called Tortas Ahogadas. The traditional dish of Birria is also native to Jalisco. Sinaloa- Sinaloa is a long, narrow state on the coast of the Pacific at the mouth of the Sea of Cortez. One of the areas signature dishes is Chilorio, which is pork in a chile sauce and "Campechana Sinaloense" a cocktail of fresh seafood. Being a sea-side state, fresh seafood is easy to come by and many dishes feature the local seafood. Veracruz- Home of the flavorful tomato based "Veracruz" sauce which also includes green olives and pimientos. The famous fish dish called Huachinango a la Veracruzana uses this sauce. This region is also known for the use of the herb hoja santa. Peanuts are widely used including Pollo Encacahuatado which is a lovely chicken in peanut sauce which is also common in the area. Puebla- Puebla is the original birthplace of mole, a sauce made from 30 ingredients including cocoa and peanut butter. The special sauce is generally served over chicken, or the chicken is cooked in the sauce. Another famous dish from the Puebla region is Chile en Nogada which consists of green chiles topped with a walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds. The beverage of Rompope was developed by the nuns of Puebla many years ago. The sweet potato dish of Camote is also traditional. Oaxaca- This state is located in Southern Mexico and features a varied cuisine. Mole is a staple here and is traditionally made with bananas and served with blandas (tortillas.) An unusal dish from the area are Iguana Tamales from the city of Isthmus. Corn dough is used in many forms for Empanadas, and entomatadas. People form Oaxaca also enjoy Chapulines which are grasshoppers, in their tacos or as a snack. Most of all, Oaxaca is probably known best for its chocolate which is made with cinnamon, nuts and other ingredients and is considered the best chocolate in Mexico. Tabasco- Uses pre-hispanic ingredients to make its traditional dishes with freshwater fish and seafood. |
