Amazing video - Japanese Tsunami Viewed From A Car

Quote:

Yu Muroga was doing his job making deliveries when the 11 March 2011 earthquake hit in Japan. Unaware, like many people in the area, of how far inland the Tsunami would travel, he continued to drive and do his job.

The HD camera mounted on his dashboard.....captured not only the earthquake, but also the moment he and several other drivers were suddenly engulfed in the Tsunami.

Muroga escaped from the vehicle seconds before it was crushed by other debris and sunk underwater. His car and the camera have only recently been recovered by the police. The camera was heavily damaged but a video expert was able to retrieve this footage.

Bit boring really. Yeah I was surprised how quickly hte water picked up the car but it wouldn't have me over worried.

that is a ton of water. In the one video, i thought it was funny how the guy runs our of his car, walks 10 feet and realizes he left the door open. He then runs back and closes it.

The last scene from the facebook one, jikes it's very scary.

I usally am a quick decider, but getting out of that I dont know.

when you look at the other video it seems thinking fast and get out of the car would be the best decision and quickly get to a high point, Even a roof of some warehouse building would be okay. But the water certainly has the momentum.

Those staying in car and not leaving in time, i think they only have a slim chance to survive.

Again very scary footage

That's kinda how I see it too, how I think I would like to handle it. but also a part of me is saying, it's safe in the car, it's bouyant, kinda just bobbing around for a while, there's debris in the water, maybe it's safer in the car!

But I figured the same, scamper to one of those warehouses and go up, but right when I was thinking that the water came blasting through that big warehouse door on the left and put the kibosh on that idea in my mind, although I still don't know the best course of action, the guy did stay in his car until it got gnarly and debris smashed through his windshield and he lived. dang.

There is no such thing as outrunning it on foot. That thing is moving easily 100 mph if not way more.:2 cents:

John-ACWM 04-23-2014 12:49 AM

I'd love to see a bunch of overweight webmasters try it though... :1orglaugh

The boat serenely following the road. The driver doing a calm three point turn right in front of the advancing water.

This is footage from a dash camera during the 2011 Japanese earthquake. When the water is first visible, you see a person in another car get out, then go back to close the door of their vehicle before running away from the tsunami. I'm pretty sure that closing the door didn't help.
