Deja Vu
"Of course common people do not want the war: not in Russia nor in UK, nor in Germany. This is understandable. But after all, the leaders of the country are the ones who determine politics and it is always easy to draw the people along with them, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament or a communist dictatorship. People, whether they have a voice or not, can always be persuaded to the will of their leaders. All you have to do is to tell them that they have been attacked by an enemy, and to denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotic feelings and for exposing the country to danger. It works in the same way in every country."
Declaration by Hermann Goering (Head of the German SS) during the Nuremberg Trial
