Ryushare file-host owner arrested ? cash, cars, motorcycles seized
 

Another file-hosting site popular with pirates has bitten the dust. According to the Vietnamese government the operators of Ryushare were arrested for distributing "depraved culture", a reference to adult-related material. Reports from authorities say the site, which at its peak last year got close to breaking into the Alexa 500, generated profits of $6.2m.

They was arrested because hosting pornography, not because of piracy or copyright.
I would expect vietnam to care more to porn issue than to copyright issue in fact.
For what I know, hosting pornography it is illegal not only in vietnam, but in most of the countries outside north america and west europe... so rather than complaint for DMCAs, if the owner is in those countries, there should be sent a complaint for "porn host".

Several posts and updates were made on 1 of our sites before being picked up by Torrent Freak. Nuked.Me has information about RyuShare and the arrests/charges.

The action does help rights holders with a better means to combat foreign infringers (File Lockers, Message Boards, Posters, etc.) whose owners live in countries that enforce these type of decency laws.

There's a lot more to this story which will come out in due course.

Discussions in private are helping to develop new tactics/methods based on these developments and others around the world.

Everyone benefits by the incarceration of known pirates and the closure of their dens of inequity. Whether it be a piracy conviction or some other reason, the result is a visible deterrent in the fight against online/digital piracy.

Who hosted these 500 servers? Even if not charged for piracy, they must be unhappy anyway, must have been $1M+ a month of hosting bill which is gone overnight, now what they do with 500 unused machines?

I hope the host is unhappy, maybe even becomes insolvent from this action. Any hosting provider doing business with rogue file lockers deserves to go bankrupt at the very least. They hide behind safe harbor as a means to justify the business they do with rogues. Same with ad networks that allow piracy related sites to display ads and pay them.

You all know who these accomplices are yet many of you continue to do business with them anyway while they help others steal from you.

That's conservative, I believe you could just about double that to arrive at the real figure.

As far as the quoted 500 servers reported by Torrent Freak, this is also incorrect.

RYUShare had help from people in other countries and there's more to this which should play out over the coming months.

Yes indeed they are. They were the new small file lockers at 1 time also. Being larger means they are harder to take down not easier. Anyone wanting to fund an effort to take them down needs to have a large bank account and even with funding it won't happen overnight.

Exactly, that is my point. The well established File Lockers have resources to delay and fight legal actions as well as advertise. A co-ordinated effort by big and small players is required for them and still takes lots of time.
