Math nerds/lovers solve this please

This is a question on an intelligence test. What's the math equation to solve this?

Charlie has 4 pairs of shoes, 12 shirts, 5 pairs of pants, and 3 watches. How many days could he go without wearing the same combination of these four items?

InfoGuy 04-10-2014 05:51 AM

The basic formula would just be 4*12*5*3. But if it's possible to have an option to not wear an item, then it would be 5*13*6*4. Both assume that he's wearing the matched left and right shoes.

how he can go out without socks? so zero days ...

AxBxCxD=720?

If he's a nudist - indefinitely.

This is not for math nerds, this is very simple for those who did not forget math courses from high school :)
And if you forgot it is still very simple to count "manually" and see the patern for the formula, like this:
1 shoe 1 shirt, 1 pant, 1 watch
1 shoe 2 shirt, 1 pant, 1 watch
1 shoe 3 shirt, 1 pant, 1 watch
........................................
1 shoe 12 shirt, 1 pant, 1 watch
1 shoe 12 shirt, 2 pant, 1 watch
1 shoe 12 shirt, 3 pant, 1 watch
..........................................

DxCxAxB=720

That's what I did on the test but only because it seemed like the only thing to do with the problem.

thankse

the question doesnt specify that he only has to wear 4 items at once, just a combination of the 4 so wearing 2 watches at once is allowed for example...

who the hell has three watches in rotation? and try showing up at work in the same clothes except with a different watch.

If you feel like you wasted your breath on a bunch of dumb MoFos then that's because you did.

720 days. Isn't that obvious?

Edit: Sounds reasonable too. In this case 1560 days will be the answer.

Why would an adult do an intelligence test anyway? Isn't this the stage where you are supposed to be putting this shit to use?

Does not specify, but it is very strongly implied, especially with the last words of "four items".

This thing always made me wonder. Sometimes I watch American movie and the scene is where some coworker says - hey whats up, you are in the same clothes as yesterday.
I do not understand this thing. Do you wash your clothes after one day of wearing? That 2 days in a row is something strange? :1orglaugh

Do you ever wonder why Americans think you stink?

Then Woot there it is.
