In an effort to be the fastest, news has been pure shit for the last 20+ years. News is no longer an authority on information. Perhaps it never should have been… imagine how different history would look if the people of the 1700s could post on Twitter.

I thought it had to to with Bieber as I reminded they stopped TV news to announce Bieber's arrest..

why the Western world is so concerned about an asian flight.. i have yet to see even speculation

edit: if i had to speculate, id say it's got something to do with the US Military Base in the region, and all the surveillance that would guarantee

I used to get an adrenalin kick when I saw 'Breaking News' - Know, sometimes I don't even look - The BBC is really bad for it...

They are making people dumb. They are literally breaking the spirit of good journalism.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the internet and rapid flow of information ruined breaking news. As technology and communication speeds have exponentially increased in the past decades news media's ability to put it in front of us near immediately has also increased. Where as we used to have to wait for something to interrupt our broadcast on TV or the radio, now news media sites field millions of visitors a day, thousands per hour and minute so for their sites to remain stagnant with simply local news or national news it would be almost death. I personally check Reuters and a number of other sites a couple times a day and I'm always dismayed when I don't see something new [not HUGE breaking, but something worth reading.] Don't blame the news, blame peoples evolving consumption habits.

It's gotten even worse then that Juicy. For the last 3 weeks, CNN has been scrolling things like: "BREAKING NEWS..... THE SEARCH IS STILL GOING ON...."

the 24 hour news cycle has turned a shaking camera pointing at an empty parking lot/ocean/side of a building into 'breaking news'. they put more thought into their intro sound effects and graphics than they do their actual, ya know, journalism

My local NBC channel bills itself as "your breaking news channel" and they begin every newscast with "news is breaking tonight in the town of.." and then go on to talk about a council meeting or whatever the fuck mundane shit is happening.
