Windows 7 or 8.1

Buying a new computer for Video editing....

Choice between Windows 7 and 8.1 after years of XP....

Any advice?

EddyTheDog 04-07-2014 08:48 AM

I liked 8.1 at first - Changed my mind though and moved back to 7 - The whole app thing just does not work unless you use a touch screen...

CurrentlySober 04-07-2014 08:55 AM

i like poo...

FreeHugeMovies 04-07-2014 09:03 AM

7 is safe

marcop 04-07-2014 09:07 AM

I like 7 a lot... upgraded from Vista which SUCKED.

Axeman 04-07-2014 09:16 AM

I prefer 7. I did hear they are still planning to make 8.1 even more like 7 though. So when it gets more in line, I may reconsider again. Or just wait til 9.

timlover 04-07-2014 09:27 AM

You might as well get 8.1. You do have the option to downgrade your license to 7 if you prefer. However; Microsoft is bringing back the look and feel of 7 in the next 8.1 update so really, you might as well just go with 8.1

I run a PC shop and I am recommending the same to my clients

a) if your upgrading an XP based computer that is still good enough (dual core ddr2/3) Then go with 7

b) new purchases...Win 8.1

Windows 8 is for web surfers, Windows 7 is for IT/Webmaster people :2 cents:

sherobabe7 04-07-2014 09:42 AM

7 is for best shot.

Just get 8.

The people that are talking about it being for "surfers" and even mentioning apps are retards that couldn't figure out how to click the Desktop tile.

It's pretty much the same damn thing as 7, just with some bells and whistles added to file explorer, some options when you put your mouse on the right side of your screen and a fullscreen start menu that's actually pretty dope for sorting your porgrams.(and of course major changes on the back-end, but let's not pretend that any of you know jack shit about software engineering)

I'm a Mac user and I love Windows 8.1

michael.kickass 04-07-2014 11:18 AM

wizzart 04-07-2014 11:36 AM

So am I and the little that I have to use Windows I liked Vista better than 7 or any of the prior versions. Haven't used 8 so I can't say.

dillfly2000 04-07-2014 12:44 PM

I'm still on vista. runs like butter with nails and broken glass in it.

DumpManager 04-07-2014 12:52 PM

Can't go wrong with lucky number 7.

sandman! 04-07-2014 01:27 PM

Yep 2000 was good and actually Windows 95 was good for it's time too. 98 sucked and was not stable but 98SE was good.

Anyway go with some Linux besides Ubuntu. Failing that Windows 7. Sure they claim they are going to fix Windows 8 but can your really trust them?

dready 04-07-2014 02:29 PM

It's better to stay current IMO. Windows 7 = released in 2009.

FlowerKid 04-07-2014 02:46 PM

Windows 7 is quite outdated now. Get Win 8.1 instead. If you don't like the tile stuff, just install classic shell and it looks like Win 7, but with the benefits of Windows 8.

Why not get one that can run Final Cut Pro? Join the grown up movie editors.

MPGdevil 04-07-2014 04:15 PM

Isn't Windows 8.1.1 released in a few days? Go with that.

Do grown ups really know best?

Adobe Premiere is growing in popularity with editors.

Apples lack of support for Final Cut Pro has caused a lot of unhappines with the grown up editors.

Nice chatting, going back out to play.

Asiantraffic 04-08-2014 02:25 AM

Win 7 64 bit :thumbsup

DigitalPimpNetwork 04-08-2014 02:40 AM

7, I will buy a new laptop soon the first thing I will do is remove that joke of an OS 8.1 and put 7 back on :)

Roald 04-08-2014 02:43 AM

The new service pack for 8 will be released today which makes it easier and more 7 like to navigate.

Go 8.

Can you do that? Is all hardware that comes with windows 8 compatible with 7? Or only designed to run on 8?

Scott McD 04-08-2014 03:02 AM

7.

8 can suck my balls...

Black All Through 04-08-2014 03:32 AM

I bought a notebook with 8.1, has been the biggest mistake ever, I absolutely hate it. 7 all the way!

Looks like you can only downgrade Windows 8.1 Pro. Possibly also only preinstalled versions?

That's why I'm seriously considering 8.1. I don't generally like a brand spanking new OS release, but I don't want to go with 7 and then have to upgrade again in a few years because Microsoft is ceasing support for it.

I have an unopened 8.1 retail box sitting here, still undecided whether to install that, or try to find a legitimate/legal way to install 7. :)

adultchatpay 04-08-2014 04:29 AM

I am comfortable with Windows 7 at the moment.

Cherry7 04-08-2014 07:10 AM

I am promised Windows 8 with Windows 7 skin.....

Lykos 04-08-2014 07:31 AM
