Uncompressed or losslessy compressed (HuffYUV, Lagarith) AVI. Be ready for some large files though.

you should use what most devices can play without extra codecs etc

In answer to your question, I think most sites are using h.264 mp4 for their streaming videos these days.

I would say mp4

H264 in an MP4 container

MPEG-2 , 4:2:2
it give you all color correction options into an editing system

mp4 into h.264 is 4:2:0
it's very compressed, and it's hard to make color correction into editing

I suggest you to shot into mpeg-2
if you shot into mp4, h.264, you can always capture your video into editing system at mpeg-2
depend if you need color correction or not

Yes i noticed that too... i'm not too happy with mp4 h.264 myself...

use mpeg-2 for editing

but send to clients, distributors or sites.... into mp4
