Man Kills Himself And His Son After Ransomware Popup

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...face-jail.html

Very sad story.

A Romanian man killed himself and his young son after a computer virus led him to believe he was going to jail.

Marcel Datcu took his own life and that of his four-year-old son Nicusor after his computer became infested with a ransomware demanding that he pay £13,000 or he would go to prison.

The 36-year-old, from Movila Miresii, Brăila County in east Romania, left behind a note where he said he could not stand going to prison and did not want his son to suffer for his actions.

Most likely religious. It's always the religious who think killing their children as well is fine because "they will go to a better place".

Wow, what a nice thing to type.

Must have been doing something shady. Perhaps it was one of those ransomware pop ups that accuse you of accessing cp. Either he felt he was guilty or he had to be one of the dumbest people on earth. (Actually I guess the latter is a given)

They should be able to trace the origin pretty easily.
I wonder if whoever sent it will be charged with murder.

Scott McD 04-03-2014 01:34 AM

Crazy. And yes sounds religious since the kid was killed too...

My mom got hit with a similar spyware. She called me in panic... She's 70 years old and was wondering what the hell was happening. We took care of her pc but I tell you, if I could come across the low life asshole running this spyware I'd DEFINITELY end up in Jail. No one makes my momma cry

TheSquealer 04-03-2014 08:56 AM

A mentally ill guy killed himself and his child. Blaming it on a computer virus is asinine

Of course, because a perfectly reasonable response to anything that happens on your computer is to put a bullet into your childs head.... clearly not an obvious indication of mental illness. You must be an outstanding parent.

Maybe he was. Maybe he was skimming some food at the docks where he worked or bringing home the used coffee grounds to resell or re use or what ever might have been something simple. But then this happend and he freaked.

A single father had to have been over worked and pretty damn stressed.

michael.kickass 04-04-2014 08:25 AM

People's stupidity at its best.

MediaGuy 04-04-2014 09:21 AM

I got a browser hijack like that - couldn't switch tabs, couldn't close the thing, couldn't do anything but task-manager the thing off. Country specific, too.

Pretty clever.

Pain.

Death to spammers.

That is all.

:D

C H R I S 04-04-2014 09:23 AM
