Whats the Best Digital Camera to buy?

Price is not a factor, list the kind you have and if you like it. I've been looking at <a href="http://www.dpreview.com/news/0301/03010902casioexz3.asp">Casio's Exilim EX-Z3</a> or the <a href="http://www.casio.com/cameras/product.cfm?section=240&product=4396">Casio QV-R4</a>
suggestions? comments?

Canon 1Ds - $8K

Kodak 14n dcs - $5k

Nothing comes close to those two.

Nikon D1X/H, for the best, that is :winkwink:

D100 is supposed to be a good digital SLR, and the 5700 coolpix isn't bad either. depends on your $$.

i love Nikon :pimp

is that kodak the crazy 14-mp slr? i've been wondering about how that camera does and all.

funny, for someone who likes canon, i'm surprised you'd suggest a Nikon. i don't know how much nikon it is, but it's got what looks like an N80 body (like the d100), and uses nikkor lenses.

so, what's the low-down on it?

Dax 03-07-2003 12:04 AM

Actually I love Nikon.. and I use Nikon.. but man after seeing that Canon 1ds, nothing comes close to that.. Nikon is kinda behind this digital game right now..

Ohh well..

I have not shot the Kodak.. but I hear good things about it.. :)

i haven't read any reviews, i think i got a new american photo that was supposed to have one, but i haven't had time.

just kinda leery about buying something that looks nikon but isn't.

i used to have an F100... damn i miss that camera :(:(:(

i heard the canon is pretty good, but i guess i'm a nikon guy. arg.

Hi

This is my first post, here.

I swear by the Nikon D100. I have three lens, a 22mm wide angle, a 28-105 f4.5 and a 80-200 f2.8 which is a real beauty.

Highly recommended.

ALL of those high end digital SLR's are a complete waste for shooting on the web only. If you intend to make prints of your work, then the EOS 1Ds or the Kodak 14n are "the best" currently available.

Don't forget a few thousand clams for good lenses to take advantage of all that amazing capability. A $100 Tamron is going to make those cameras cry for mercy.

I agree, anything over 3 megapixels is too much for the web, but he asked for the best digital cameras.. price was not an object.. :) I gave him what I think are the best 2 options.

And I fully agree with the options...However....The Canon D60 is worth mentioning as well and it is less than half the price of it's bigger brother.

Just more food for thought.

probably the only nikon i don't like, that and the fm10 :glugglug

i've been in photography for years. i started with a sweet minolta xk, aperture-priority man. focus. that thing is *awesome*. gonna try and buy it i think (it was my dad's... i was in high school)..

he had two nice lenses, a 50mm f1.4 and 35mm f1.2. those things rocked for all things dark. never needed a flash.

that's what sucked about my f3.5... HORRIBLE in low-light. i couldn't stand an f4.5... looking at the 28-80 edif nikkor w/macro and i think it's either 2.8 or 1.8... for around $600.

Dude, the D-60 is discontinued. It's been replaced by the 10D.

We use the Nikon D100 here at Oliver Klozov Studios but I have heard great things about the Canon D60. I love the Nikons but the thing that disturbs me the most about them is the skin tones are not as close to film as I would like. I always see a lot of "yellow/green" within my shots.

I've been thinking about testing some Canon gear to see what "if any" the difference would be between the Canon and our Nikon stuff.

Anybody out there done any testing of these two cameras?

Dean, pardon me if you've already looked at this, but it sounds to me like it's an issue either with a) white balance or light temperature correction or b) on the processing side with monitor gamma and color calibration.

I've done some research and found absolutely nothing that discusses incorrect skin tones inherent in the D-100.

tony286 03-07-2003 09:50 AM

I think the nicer thing about having a higher camera even if you shoot for the web is those times you want to print pics you can. Juggs wanted pics of my wife, they wouldnt accept a cd but they would accept prints(which makes no fucking sense, they are going to have to go into a computer sometime). With my e-10 I could do that but you are right 99% of the time I never use the camera to its full potential because I am shooting for the web.

Cindyff 03-07-2003 09:59 AM

Kodak 14n Looks like being the best camera available when it is finally released. at $4000-$5000 its great value. We have one on order for the last 4 months still no sign of it, but that's ok, Nikon released the D1 too early and got so much bad press due to faults. I hear Nikon is working on a major new camera but this time it wont be released until it all works 100%

Hope that helps
