Arizona State University student falls to death from balcony after partying
An Arizona State University freshman fell to her death from a 10th-floor balcony in what police have described as a tragic case of underage drinking gone grimly awry.
Tempe police said 18-year-old Naomi McClendon was intoxicated when she fell over the railing at an ASU apartment complex early Sunday morning, The Arizona Republic reported.
Surveillance cameras showed the young Kansas native stumbling in the lobby and clutching the walls after she entered the building with friends at around 2:30 a.m. and rode the elevator up to the 10th floor.
The group entered the apartment together but at some point the friends left, cops said.
Surveillance cameras outside the building captured McClendon teetering onto the balcony, where she straddled the 6-inch-thick railing and fell off.
Emergency responders found her in the parking lot below the building, and she was declared dead later at a local hospital.
One horrified student told local NBC she and a friend saw McClendon fall.
