Converting WM9 (wmv) files to MPEG

Does anyone know how to convert WM9 (.wmv) files to MPEG? What program should I use?

AdultWebGraphics 03-06-2003 09:43 PM

Vegas Video 3.0 does it :)

seven 03-06-2003 09:44 PM

don't think you could do that besides that'd definitely come out as shitty quality anyways.

skrog 03-06-2003 09:44 PM

The quality is going to be shit. If you do that :thumbsup

It converts WMV9 files into mpg's just fine for me and they play perfectly in the WMP 9.

jollyperv 03-07-2003 01:03 AM

There's a free program called asf tools that can convert them to raw avis, then you can use any of the 1000s of mpeg encoders to convert to mpeg...I think there's a link for it at digital-digest.com

theking 03-07-2003 09:57 AM

Tycoon did you read my last post?

Can you do it in the trial version or do you need the full version.

I don't think there is a trial version. The thing is free and the time never expires although there is a splash page that says it does. I see that they have a different version now, mine is 2.59, but I doubt that is any problem. I think you may just be doing something wrong. Are you trying to convert to a standard MPG 1?

Do this.

#1 Use settings and select MPEG-1 Video (It may work with 2 also but I have never tried it) Make whatever other settings you want including color, gamma controls etc.

#2 On the main dialog box select System Video + Audio

#3 Use browse to select the video source folder.

#4 Then go to browse to select the output folder.

#5 The click on start.

Walla. It should play perfectly in your WMP 9

theking 03-07-2003 02:15 PM

Tycoon did you get it worked out?

tycoon 03-07-2003 07:11 PM

No I did not b/c I couldnt download 2.59.

do you know where I could download it...or, could you put it up somewhere for me to download.

-King

ps:whats your email addy?

Did you do what I suggested to you with the version they now have available. I think the problem must be on your end and not the version?

Clarify for me what is wrong. Are you saying it won't convert to mpg or are you saying the converted mpg won't play in WMP 9.

xxxinnovations 03-07-2003 07:22 PM

... so i hear sowned has a little dick, seriously

tycoon 03-07-2003 07:26 PM

When I go to browse and add a wmv9 file "video" it says it cant read the format.

Thats the only problem.

When you go to browse where it says files of type use the drop down and select all files. Get back to me.

chupacabra 03-07-2003 07:56 PM

why do you need to convert from WMV anyways? you wouldn't be trying to steal content from another site and crop out their watermarks now, would you..? hehe..

theking 03-08-2003 10:07 AM

Tycoon is it working for you now?

angelsofporn 03-08-2003 10:16 AM

If you figure it out let me know. I too could not figure out how to batch process wmv's, though I did not spend a lot of time on it.

That's a crock. The quality isn't as high, but it can still be done in a decent quality.

Vegas Video is the way I'd go...but you have to get the extra plug-in neede to convert it to mpeg-1 or -2

tycoon 03-08-2003 03:35 PM

Yeah but Vegas Video is 399

WebTitan 03-08-2003 03:41 PM

Vegas Video does an excellent job on converting .wmv files and they are also good quality. Of course, the copy will never be better than the original it was copied from.

tycoon 03-08-2003 05:10 PM

I got VegasVideo3.0

looks great.

Thanks for everything.
