Roku Channel Question

Hey, I'm thinking of starting up a Roku channel for our content and was wondering how it would work as far as traffic, do they provide the traffic like youtube where there's already people looking for videos and yours is just another one amongst the multitude or would I have to go and promote the channel myself?

I ask because from what I've seen of other programs press releases when they release their Roku channel, they always say it's private, does that affect the visibility of the channel(sounds like it would), ie, is it not listed in the Channel Store on the Roku site?

Any info on this would be appreciated.

As far as I know you can only have a private channel on Roku for porn, and I've never seen a porn channel in the Roku channel store...

No they don't.

Its a nice add on for your users but I personally think youd get a lot more traction with XBMC

Doubt it. Roku has a massive user base of normal people that just want it to work. XMBC is used by l337 haxx0r types who are not really the target audience for buying porn.

You may well be right no doubt I have no idea what roku's user base is vs XBMC, wouldnt argue that at all.

There's are sites that list Roku Private Channels. Just contact them and they'll add your channel to the list.

Here's a couple sites from my bookmarks. Some of them might be outdated.

http://streamfree.tv/apps/roku-private-channels/
https://www.rokuchannels.tv/channels/private/

You could also post about the channel in the Roku Forum:

You'd better fix your Footdomvideos.com. On face of site don’t play mp4 files.

Question: are they protected streams? Meaning, only members can view them and cant save/store/record them without additional hardware?

Roku channels can have password access. You can also limit the number of authorized devices and concurrent streams. So if you only wanted a user to access it on 3 Roku devices, and they can only stream on one device at a time, you can do something like that.

Roku devices can't record streams. I guess it might be possible if you try running the HDMI wire through your computer or some other recording hardware. But I hang out on a lot of Roku forums, and I never hear people talking about trying to record the video streams. Roku users don't seem to be interested in that stuff.
