King -- this thread reminds me I have to start thinking about getting out to my uncle's lake home in NW Ontario again soon. The ice fishing right now will be in it's full swing, but it won't be long until the big spring thaw and I'll again be too late. Then I'll have to wait until he gets his boat in the water.

The trout from that lake are the biggest I've seen though.

I never understood fishing. Where is the fun in it - You stand there with your line in the water and wait until a fish bites and then you reel it in. It's about as much excitement as watching paint dry. Any four year old can do it; When I go down to the pier one guy runs a dozen lines out all by himself.

And if you are fishing in a stocked pond, what's the point in that? That's like hunting on a deer farm.

It is about getting out and breathing in the outside air...feeling the sun on your shoulders...the calmness...listening to the wildlife...the laid back relaxation. Plus enjoying a fresh fish dinner...if you like eating fish.

If you are looking for exciting fishing then rent a sporting boat and go catch the big boys like the one in the video.

It's not about excitement, it's about getting outside in the fresh air and just being *still* for a while, checking out for a few hours from all the bullshit of life. Depending on your approach too there's an art to it, and nothing wrong with actually catching your own dinner.

Agreed though, stocked lakes are dumb.

Lake trout. There's also some pretty sizeable northern, bass, whitefish and walleye in that lake.

You know, or maybe you don't, that there are all kinds of fishing. There is huge skillset included just in the type of fishing you described. Well, at least if you want to catch something/ you want to be good at it.

Just throwing some bait in the water without knowing what you are doing is just like putting up website (nothing else) and waiting for the tremendous masses to arrive.
