Usually Realtime>>Overview is the first thing I look at. Then Acquisition.

total traffic, traffic sources, bounce rate, on time rate.
Something along those lines.

Organic results. We're trying to regain Google traffic so are making small incremental changes and see what effects come about. Slow process though
