Software to Turn Photos into Sketches (Pics)

I've been playing around with a program called AKVIS sketch, that turns photos into line drawings. I don't know if any of you guys have use for such a thing, but it's fun to play with.... samples:

As an artist, I've seen these types of filters many times over the years. But this one is definitely one of the nicer, most natural looking conversions.

Tons of these type of drawing effect filters/plugins/actions around but I agree, the results on these photos are pretty nice compared to the ones I've tried.

Terrific! I was actually thinking of looking for something like this the other day!
I appreciate the tip! ;-)

Nice! :thumbsup

How much manual work (if any) did those conversions need?

That's what I was wondering - It looks good - How does it know how to focus on the good bits?..

Pretty slick software

Look at the 5th picture. The little card sized girl pictures on the wall each look like stylized art pieces, not like some sketch filter.

I didn't explain exactly how I created those images--I ran the software, fiddled with the settings to get each image looking good (which doesn't take long), and then created a sketch version of the image (which contains no color). Then I went into PS, opened the original photo and the sketch version, laid the sketch image over the photo, and faded the sketch back to anywhere from 45-75%. That brings the colors in somewhat, and makes the images look even more realistic.

I've found the software doesn't work well sometimes with faces, particularly women's faces, as the lines in the sketch can make a person look way older than they are. I tried the software on a photo of a friend and his 50-ish wife, and she looked horrible. There are workarounds though--I tried it on a photo of two 70-something women who were wearing sunglasses and the resulting image looked great. And you can edit out the lines around the eyes, etc., on the sketch version before merging the images (I tried that and it looked very good).

I'd guess it took me 2-3 minutes to create each image, even with messing with the settings somewhat.

Great, thanks for the recommendation!

I think the best subjects would probably be something that could be a "cartoon". That one of the girl's face looks like a photograph of a girl's face, but the guitar player works with the filter for some reason.

No offense meant but this final only looks like it was shot with a poor quality camera or something along those lines. Maybe more work on it but it does seem to be going in the right direction.

Yes, it really depends on the image--some work well and others don't really work at all.

Just for the hell of it, here's three hardcore shots:
