What's sad is that there are so many stories like these that will never be told.

Years ago in Phoenix I bought some furniture and this older man insisted on helping me out to my SUV with it. He was older, but clearly strong as an ox. As we were loading up the furniture I noticed a Marine Corps tattoo, asked about it... Turned out when he was fifteen he joined the Marines and was shipped out the South Pacific to fight. We ended up doing lunch where he promptly drank me under the table....

He was apparently quite the character during the war and continued to be after the war.

There are now 18 members of the BOB's left alive...the oldest being 95 and the youngest being 88.

I read somewhere that Major Winters considered him along with Speirs as the two "natural born killers" of the company. Which I guess is a compliment during wartime.

Well he himself once said that he did alot of killing and it did not bother him to kill.

Yes. And keep in mind this was during a period of my life where I brought my own Jägermeister machine to parties.

I have known several troopers from both the 82nd and 101st that were in on the Normandy invasion. They all had amazing tales to tell.
