I found it long and rather boring. Sort of like American hustle. Long and boring.

Have to see it. Not soon I guess, it takes me years to finally decide to watch an Oscar winning movie. I still have to watch The English patient.

It kept me watching until the end, which is more than I can say for most movies today. Example of one that I left part way through to do housework: The Book Thief. Now that's a real stinker.

I liked the real creepy slaver that was in the first half. That guy is always excellent playing creeps. He was the preacher in There Will Be Blood as well.

Yeah he was good. He's also the creepy guy in Prisoners (I think), great film.

I'm tired of torture period piece movies. they are more manipulative than they are enjoyable--most people can't tell the difference though clearly as they keep winning shit.

The movie has some very good moments, but overall I found it a bit slow and boring.
Not really in my top list.

Honestly, I liked it, made a change from all the re-hashed remakes that we've been bombarded with over the past few years from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Agree, Gravity was also a bit boring. It was fun to watch, had some nice things, but that was all.

12 years a slave was a fantastic movie, with un-enjoyable content.. it happens.

Now,

if you want to see one of the best performances in cinema history.. watch his first movie titled "Hunger".

Shame is also pretty damn good.

I think everyone, and i mean EVERYONE in America knows it. Yet another huge production is a cheap trick to cash in and get oscars. Side effect is that yet again the emphasis is put on differences of skin color and keep dividing people instead of looking at the future. Like WW2 movies in Europe, I automatically skip those when new ones come because we get hammered with it here all the time. We know, old news, move on, be creative for once in a while.

I thought most of the highly regarded movies last year were pretty average. 12 years a slave, gravity, American hustle, wolf of Wall Street. I did think Her was insanely good and original though, best movie I saw last year.

Although I don't agree that WW II shouldn't be remembered, in most cases these movies are way too pathetic to enjoy for those who have real interest in WW II, as they in most cases tend to paint heroes, victims and villains in very much one dimensional fashion and in most cases also spin and bend historical facts.

The apathy that you probably feel when black people are profiled/denied equal opportunities/shot to death by the police for NOTHING/etc. is the problem. It perpetuates the inequality that slavery and segregation created in america.

According to this study, there are an estimated 30 million people living in slavery worldwide. About 60,000 of them are here in the US.

I think it is safe to say there are still sections of society the suffer from slaver and sections that benefit from it.

Read the book. It is short. It is action packed. It is way better than the movie. Had the movie stuck more to the book it would have rocked.
