Between unions, fees, regulations, licensing (and the list goes on and on with the govt having it's hand out taking money) in Hollywood...the major studios film just about everything anywhere BUT Hollywood these days.

They are currently planning an enormous sound stage here in Thailand for Hollywood companies to film in. Even with the travel, it's cheaper to film here and the locals have a thriving movie scene and work for a fraction of the cost. I read they are trying to work out some tax issues with the government before it's full go.

Hollywood films all over the world now. Adapt or die.

So how many studios are moving from hollywood to LA?
Zero? I thought so.
Its not about the location of where film scenes are shot..

Yes it is. Read the article. Hundreds of millions of dollars lost to other states and countries.

If you went by "location" of headquarters, Delaware would be one rich state.

BareBacked 03-07-2014 04:19 PM

They have been shooing more and more movies our of Cali.
Had some friends in the biz. ( electician and shit ) They were bitching about it 5 years ago

Yea, it is a big deal where the movies are made. Of course "Hollywood" will always be in Hollwood, but the movie industry has no choice but to make more films outside of California.

Rochard 03-07-2014 04:25 PM

Hollywood shoots a lot in Mexico too...

Production is core of movie business. You can shoot scenes anywhere.

Vendzilla 03-07-2014 04:36 PM

I see a lot of stuff shot in Canada lately, but my buddies that work on the sets for reality shows and game shows and sitcoms are doing fine

Rumbledog 03-07-2014 04:40 PM

California is being broken into 4 Fema Regions and two states.

It's a damn shame what they have done to their own economy.

They are destroying the goose that laid the golden egg.

candyflip 03-07-2014 07:47 PM

NY is getting a nice chunk of business too. They just signed a HUGE deal with Marvel and Netflix to produce a whole slew of shows in NYC and the rest of the state. $400 million I believe.

This will change based on the types of movies being made.

Nobody would try to film "Lost" in Hollywood; there's no jungle there and fake ones are fake.

You're right. They filmed Lost in Hawaii and made that state's economy a nice chunk of change.

The economy in Hawaii crashed during filming of that show.

:1orglaugh

That has nothing to do with the show but since you brought it up like they handed out $100 bills to all the town's people or something....

:helpme

I watched the BTS on one of the action marvel films... even though the stages are so small they can barely shoot on them they won't shoot in LA where the stages are MADE for shooting :2 cents:

EddyTheDog 03-08-2014 07:24 AM

New Zealand are doing well out of it as well - Also the UK...

iSpyCams 03-08-2014 07:40 AM

It seems a lot of filming is happening in Chicago now, maybe its cause I live here and I keep recognizing places I wouldn't have noticed otherwise, anyway it's nice to see stuff that doesn't pretend LA is the center of the universe.
