The UK has a statutory regulator for online video, ATV*D, who can close down sites which do not comply with their rules. Its powers have not been debated in parliament, and they are wielded arbitrarily.

Recently, this regulator has been pursuing UK based porn sites more aggressively. A lot of UK porn producers are removing their previews, shutting down, or fleeing offshore right now.

If you are in the UK, you really ought to investigate your compliances, if your business is important to you.

If your business is registered in the UK and you maintain editorial supervision of a porn site there, then you are legally obliged to take membership in ATV*D. (Replace the star with the letter O).

If you can prove that content in your site is generated offshore, you are fine. But if you are firmly rooted in the UK, this regulator will fine you £20K or more, or shut you down.
