he had to resign over potential corruption and is currently on trial - over the total sum of 700 Euro :upsidedow

The Ukrainian President

The Ukrainian President officially never had a position that paid more than $2000 per month (at least before he became president, but that also pays not much more)

and then some people wonder why the people get upset.

what i dont get though: why are there still people defending him?

His house? Don't you mean "houses"?

NY Times Quote of the Day (Feb 26th 2014):

"Why does he need a palace every few kilometers? He thought he was a czar."

~ DIMTRI PILTI, a shop owner in the Crimea region of Ukraine, where the ousted president, Viktor F. Yanukovych, was building a seaside retreat.

German president had to resign because he demanded from reporter to hide story, not just because of those 700 euros. And people who still support Yanukovich is beacuse of ideological reason -they will support someone no matter what he do as long he carry their ideology. That is why many bad people from history are still praised despise their crimes.

What's up with "THE" Ukraine?

It was "the Ukrainian SSR" and now is just Ukraine.

i watch neither

the only thing i saw was how Berkut forces were greeted with flowers in Crimea, pro western demonstrators were attacked and people that were interviewed claimed that Yanukovich was still their president and they would fight for him and hope that Russia comes with forces to support them

maybe a small minority, i'd sure hope so

i would wish that everyone would relax and not have feelings taking over (as obvious also with some people here)

Did he own any companies? Many businessmen who own companies do not pay out salaries to themselves (because it is more expensive than other methods of cashing out).
Not defending him by any means as he is 100% corrupt, just saying that salary statement is not necessary always in play.

Interesting, but did you see that video where they beat up anti yanukovic speakers and waved Russian flags?

it's not that they're defending him.
The russian speaking population is more scared of the ethnic ukrainians that are not much different than the Nazi's. And are simply picking the better of 2 evils.

hm... i know quite a few Ukrainians here and none of them comes across as a Nazi

but i know they exist - just like they exist in Russia, Germany, France, UK and many other countries

but i get your point - that's why quick REAL democratic elections would be the best (imho)
