Largest tree in the world

Went to a funeral on Friday in Fresno, on the way back, made a left and saw this in the park. I did this as a kid and it's just amazing to see the size of this tree in person

Don't know these people, just thought it would show just how big this tree is!

Largest tree in the world, by volume
General Sherman Sequoia National Park

The General Sherman is a giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) tree located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in Tulare County, in the U.S. state of California. By volume, it is the largest known living single stem tree on Earth.[1] The General Sherman Tree is neither the tallest known living tree on Earth (that distinction belongs to the Hyperion tree, a Coast redwood),[2] nor is it the widest (both the largest cypress and largest baobab have a greater diameter), nor is it the oldest known living tree on Earth (that distinction belongs to a Great Basin bristlecone pine).[3] With a height of 83.8 metres (275 ft), a diameter of 7.7 metres (25 ft), an estimated bole volume of 1,487 cubic metres (52,513 cu ft), and an estimated age of 2,300?2,700 years,[4][5][6] it is nevertheless among the tallest, widest and longest-lived of all trees on the planet.

I made a day trip up there last year while my bike was in the shop, I was looking for a cabin I stayed in as a teenager with a buddy's family.
I think I found it at Grant's Grove not too far from the Sherman tree, the General Grant is the second biggest tree in the world.

Thinking about making reservations for a couple of nights this summer and going back up there on the bike, even though some of the roads aren't exactly "harley friendly"

Funny story about that time I was there before, my buddy and I actually slept on cots out on the porch,

something woke me up in the middle of the night, I looked down by my feet and could just make out a bear with his snout between the railing, almost between my feet.
:uhoh

He kind of snuffled at me and slowly moved off, I just closed my eyes and put my head back down on the pillow, I didn't get a whole lot of sleep that night :1orglaugh

I saw a few harley's up there, I left mine at home. I stayed at the Comfort Inn, got the jacuzzi Suite, had a fire place in it, pretty cool, off season, only $129 a night

WTF!

Vendzilla made a non-political post?????????

Oh wait, Reagan said go ahead and cut those trees down; "If you've seen one redwood then you've seen them all".

:1orglaugh

Wellness Cash 02-24-2014 08:24 PM

Just imagine how many birds that tree has killed as they fell out of it, it should be cut down to protect the birds, we must think of the birds.

Reagan was an outdoor kind of guy
He set aside 145,000 acres for for the state park system
He directly had a lot to do with protecting the giants
